JOB DESCRIPTION

FHI is seeking a Project Director (PD) that will provide overall programmatic and technical leadership and oversight for the Global Health Security (GHS) project in the countries where the project is implemented. In coordination with the country project directors and technical leads, the PD establishes and continually refines programmatic frameworks, approaches, strategies, tools, and activities for the project. They identify specialized and strategic partnerships’ needs, engages qualified partners to ensure and maximizes technical performance to support and increase the competency of the country/countries in pandemic preparedness and outbreak response. The PD monitors all aspects of a project from initiation through delivery and closure. Ensuring completion of the project on schedule and within the available budgets. The PD selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure proper implementation and efficient operations of the project. They liaise with major international and national relevant organizations and donors for networking and positioning of the project and its activities as well as contributes project experience and learning to global platforms thought leadership initiatives in relevant area/s of technical and programmatic specialization.

Accountabilities

  • Working closely with Country Representatives or Country Project Lead or and technical leads to ensure smooth project implementation, tracks performance against project timelines, budget, objectives, and deliverables.
  • Oversees the design, implementation, and monitoring processes of projects’ workplans and budgets in different countries
  • Oversees the development of high-quality reports to donors, partners, FHI360 respective offices and others as required. Responsible for providing an overall oversight of technical activities and implementation progress in the respective annual country (countries) workplans, including the provision of in-country technical assistance.
  • Coordinates with relevant global and country-based projects to ensure cross-country synergies;
  • Supervises and provides overall program and technical guidance to the GHS project team in ensuring compliance with the organizational procedures and the standards.
  • Participates in reviewing and providing feedback on partners’ M&E framework, plans and reports to ensure quality program reporting of results.
  • Oversees production of timely and accurate technical reports to FHI 360 and CDC as required.
  • Supports knowledge management within the project, including the capture and articulation of success stories, best practice and lessons learned.
  • Supports performance management and professional development of direct reports,including ongoing feedback, coaching and career support.
  • Engages in writing technical products/publications and participates in relevant international and regional conferences and scientific platforms to present the project and its achievements and liaises with other representatives from different international organizations/institutions for knowledge sharing and networking.
  • Creates, promotes and maintains safe and equitable work environments for all personnel, including a harassment- and violence-free work culture, and systems for safeguarding project participants.
  • Plans, directs, and coordinates activities for designated projects to ensure that goals and objectives are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters.
  • Reviews project proposals and plans to determine scheduling, budget, procedures, staffing, and allotment of resources needed for projects.
  • Establishes work plans, project teams, and SOPs to meet project goals and ensure compliance with policies.
  • Provides guidance and training to country project directors and technical leads to achieve project goals.
  • Participates in the strategic development of methods and techniques with executive management.
  • Establishes, serves, and maintains partnerships with internal and external stakeholders on project matters.
  • Responsible for induction of project staff, ensuring their familiarity with mandate values, quality standards, policies and project objectives and their individual responsibilities in upholding these standards and policies.
  • Supports performance management and professional development of direct reports, including ongoing feedback, coaching, and career support.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Ability to build positive local working relationships with international donors, government officials, local communities and relevant UN agencies. .

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or its International Equivalent in Health, Life/Social Sciences, International Development, Human Development or Related Field; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Project Management (PM) Certification preferred.

Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with projects management principles and practices (including 5+ years of line management experience).
  • A minimum of 3 years of prior experience and/or considerable knowledge of Global Health Security, One Health, and related technical areas such as, but not limited to Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), surveillance, Infection Prevention and Control (IP&C), and strengthening laboratory and diagnostic capacities is preferred.
  • Proficient with applicable rules, regulations, and policies associated with international development and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
  • Demonstrated experience in multi-sector project management and implementation.
  • Demonstrated strategic planning, staff development and capacity building experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing complex projects that are strategic in nature and national/international in scope.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English,
  • Experience operating in insecure environments.
  • Experience working in a non-governmental organization (NGO).

The expected US Based hiring salary range for this role is listed below. Candidate FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget.

 

Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI 360 contributes 12% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account. Additionally, all US based staff working full-time, which is calculated at 40 hours/week, receive 18 days of paid vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 11 holidays per year. Paid time off is reduced pro rata for employees working less than a full-time schedule.

 

US Based Hiring Salary Range: $115,000 – $150,000

International hiring ranges will differ based on location.
