We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Deputy Chief of Party- Technical for ELEVATE Nutrition Ghana.

ELEVATE Nutrition (Enhancing Local Efforts for Vital, Transformative, and Evidence-Based Nutrition), funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is a five-year cooperative agreement led by FHI 360 in collaboration with Action Against Hunger, Bixal, CNFA: Cultivating New Frontiers in Agriculture, GEMNet-Health, and Oxford Policy Management. The project aims to advance local implementation of high-quality nutrition programs and policies to improve the nutritional status of women and children, particularly in the first 1,000 days. ELEVATE Nutrition will drive efforts to sustain USAID technical leadership in nutrition, enhance locally driven nutrition programs and policies, and boost innovative efforts to share learning and transfer knowledge.

ELEVATE Nutrition will operate in Ghana through June 2028 to provide technical support to advance the government’s efforts to plan and deliver equitable and quality multisectoral nutrition services that promote household resilience and food security. The activities focus on improving the governance and policy environment, strengthening multisectoral coordination at national and local levels, supporting local governments to increase funding for multisectoral nutrition, supporting social and behavior change through non-health sector partners, and improving knowledge synthesis, documentation, and management. The programming will take place at both the national level, as well as in the five regions of northern Ghana (Upper East, North East, Northern, Upper West, and Savannah).

Job Summary:

The Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP)- Technical will provide technical leadership and oversight of the project, focusing on implementation of high-quality multisectoral nutrition interventions. S/he will support the Chief of Party (COP) by providing overall technical leadership and contributing to the strategic vision for the project; ensuring that work plan activities are technically sound and cohesive; and meeting annual work plan targets and deliverables on time and with quality. The DCOP- Technical will play a key role in designing, implementing and managing multisectoral nutrition activities. S/he will supervise technical experts in nutrition, food systems and governance. While the DCOP- Technical is not required to be an expert in each area, the ideal candidate will be conversant in these core technical themes of the project and able to provide high-level project representation. Additionally, the DCOP- Technical will supervise a technical manager overseeing a field-based implementation team providing support to districts to plan, budget and implement multisectoral nutrition activities.

The DCOP- Technical will report to the Chief of Party. The position will supervise at least four technical personnel. The DCOP- Technical will work collaboratively with staff in the ELEVATE Nutrition Ghana and headquarters offices. This position will be based in Tamale, Ghana.

Essential Job Functions:

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the COP to provide technical leadership and contribute to the strategic vision for the project.
  • Ensure that all project activities are technically sound, cohesive, and well-integrated across governance, nutrition, food systems and resilience technical areas.
  • Oversee the work of a team of project technical personnel, providing supervision, mentorship support, and ensuring a coordinated implementation approach.
  • Develop and manage program team priorities, work plans and budgets, ensuring activities are delivered on time, within budget and in accordance with USAID and FHI 360 policies and procedures.
  • Oversee development the technical activities in annual work plans and the support the development of quarterly and annual progress reports to USAID.
  • Support the COP in representing the project to USAID and key government and development partner stakeholders, and at conferences or other knowledge exchange events.
  • Develops strategies and tools for the design and implementation of specific technical components.
  • Promote gender equality and social inclusion in the design and implementation of activities, guided by the ELEVATE Nutrition Gender Strategy.
  • Contribute to efforts to document and disseminate best practices, lessons learned, and success stories related to ELEVATE Ghana’s programming.
  • Collaborate with ELEVATE Nutrition home office technical advisors on technical activities to ensure alignment with ELEVATE Nutrition’s global processes and best practices.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Master’s degree or international equivalent in Public Health, Nutrition, Social Sciences or related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in nutrition, public health or related field for donor-funded projects, preferably within multisectoral and/or nutrition programs.
  • In-depth knowledge of multisectoral nutrition.
  • Relevant experience overseeing a technical portfolio and managing personnel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Willingness to travel within Ghana, especially the five northern regions.
