Our Work In Sierra Leone:

Partners In Health (PIH) began supporting the government of Sierra Leone in response to the Ebola epidemic in October 2014. Recognizing the large need for continued investments in the health system after Ebola, PIH is committed to long-term health system strengthening in support of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS), guided by the same principles as our emergency response and our work around the world: public sector accompaniment, integrated and comprehensive services, social justice, nimbleness and flexibility, partnership, community ownership, and evidence-based interventions. In the aftermath of the epidemic, PIH is committed to supporting the delivery of comprehensive health services in Sierra Leone, from the community level to the health center and to referral hospitals. PIH is further committed to supporting the delivery of a comprehensive health services in SL through the implementation of a World Bank Funded Quality Essential Health Services and Systems Support (QEHSSS) Project in 5 districts namely, Kailahun, Bonthe, Falaba, Tonkolili, and WA Rural.

 

Position Overview
The Housekeeper support the Operations Officer in Jojoima in ensuring smooth operations of administration functions in the Jojoima guest house. The role involves the effective upkeep of the guest house by creating a clean, safe and secured environment within and around the guesthouse and ensuring that all cooking services are done to the satisfaction of the Occupants of the guest house. He/She will also perform other administrative support functions at the guest house as detailed below.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Participate in cooking and baking and the preparation of quality foods of different kinds.
  • Preparation and cooking of foods of all types, either on a regular basis or for special guests/staff or functions.
  • Work with operations officer for checking of all purchased supplies for quality and account for each delivered item.
  • Work closely with Occupants of the guest house to create menu items and determine food inventory needs.
  • Ensures that the Kitchen and all areas at the guest house meets all regulations, including sanitary and safety guidelines.
  • Responsible for the food that comes out of the kitchen, from conception to execution.
  • Check the quality and quantity of cooking products delivered to the guest house.
  • Work with operations officer to estimate amounts and costs of required supplies, such as food and ingredients.
  • Order or requisite for food items and other supplies needed to ensure efficient kitchen and guest house operations.
  • Washing or laundry of clothes and disinfects all fixtures, sinks, urinals, toilet and bathrooms.
  • Scrub and disinfects, paper floor, including corners.
  • Ensures EVERY AREA of the guest house is clean and habitable at all times.
  • Support the smooth operations of the generator as maybe applicable.
  • Report to the Operations Officer any faults that may affect the smooth operations of the guest house.
  • Perform other duties relating to the job as may be directed by Supervisor.

Qualifications/Requirements
  • Two (2) passes in WASSCE.
  • Minimum one (1) year of relevant experience.
  • Basic verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Reliability and Teamwork.
  • Ability to organize own work and provide support to staff at all levels.
  • Good interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with culturally diverse staff across departments.
  • Sense of humor and flexible disposition/very helpful.
  • Interest in social justice and global health.
  • Understanding of food safety regulations and practices, including proper handling, storage, and preparation of ingredients.
  • Proficiency in various cooking methods, including grilling, frying, baking, sautéing, etc.
  • Ability to create and adapt menus, considering eating restrictions and guest preferences.
  • Familiarity with different ingredients, their quality, and suitable flavor combinations.
  • Efficient organization and ability to manage multiple dishes simultaneously.
  • A keen eye for presentation and precision in plating.
  • Willingness to learn new steps and adapt to changing eating trends.
  • Capacity to innovate and create new dishes while maintaining classic steps.
  • Strict adherence to hygiene and safety standards in the kitchen.
  • Quick thinking to address kitchen challenges and make adjustments when necessary.
  • Understanding of housekeeping regulations
