Job Purpose

 

This would be under the direct supervision of the FFGR research manager and immediate supervisor (Assistant Scientist), manage data collection and uploading of files in proper data storage, engage in high-throughput phenotyping, perform pre-breeding activities related to the development of new products for drought/ flood/ salinity tolerant.

This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

 

  • Provide support in the day-to-day operations of experiments and research activities as part of Google research activities
  • Perform specific procedures related to experiments/study (e.g. abiotic stress tolerance screening, phenotyping, and crossing), data collection, and postharvest activities ensuring compliance with SOPs.
  • Perform crop establishment and management of experiments in the fields and screenhouses.
  • Provide timely, consistent and accurate information to the direct supervisor to ensure that research objectives are attained.
  • Support scholars, students, researchers and scientists in field data collection of major nurseries and experiments
  • Provide timely support to contract workers in the field/screenhouse/greenhouse to ensure smooth operations and efficiency-monitoring
  • Engaged in the precise field and screenhouse phenotyping of genebank materials
  • Contribute to the quality assurance of data collection using digital tools and post-harvest management
  • Prepare materials for screen house abiotic stresses phenotyping.
  • Contribute to the data collection, encoding and documentation
  • Operate equipment, digital tools, gadgets and computers for efficient data management and Storage

 

Qualifications

 

  • High school graduate with a minimum at least 1 year of relevant work experience

 

Skills Required

 

Mandatory

  • Has basic knowledge of MS Office programs such as Word and Excel or related software
  • Has experience in data collection on abiotic stress screening

Preferred

  • Has knowledge and experience in rice production and abiotic stresses phenotyping
