ABOUT LOGISTICS OFFICER (LOGISTICS SECTOR) AT WFP
This position is based in Maiduguri, Nigeria and reports to Deputy Head of Area Office and the Global Logistics Cluster Support Cell, WFP HQ, Rome.
THE ROLE
To contribute to daily planning and coordination of WFP logistics operations including monitoring of services provided by contracted external organizations to ensure cost-effective operations and that set objectives are achieved in full.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive, within delegated authority):
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education: Advanced University degree in Transport Economics, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business Management or other related field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.
Desired experiences for entry into the role:
Language: Fluency (level C) in English language and the duty station’s language, if different.

You have an understanding of the international humanitarian response architecture, including co-ordination mechanisms, Humanitarian Reform and humanitarian action, and international emergency response funding mechanisms.
An ability to work within a diverse group, build/develop consensus and deliver on joint outputs.

Demonstrated ability to work productively in remote and high-pressure environments, to motivate a team, maintain morale and deliver on objectives in difficult circumstances.

1. Ensure the proper implementation of Cluster Approach in the technical area of Logistics: as per current IASC guidance; and, in-line with agreed technical standards and norms endorsed by the Global Logistics Cluster Lead Agency and Partnership Base.
2. Ensure that Logistics Cluster overall (i.e. engagements involving the Lead Agency and partners, under the Logistics Cluster strategy) is managed in line with the Principles of Partnership.
3. Facilitate discussion and agreement on the use of common standards and tools among cluster partners. Promote awareness of and adherence to relevant policy guidelines, codes of conduct and examples of good practice by all cluster partners.
4. Together with Logistics Cluster partners, lead the continuous identification and assessment of logistics capacities, gaps and bottlenecks in the country.
5. Provide partners with logistics solutions based on detailed cost/ benefits analyses and recommended standard operating procedures.
6. Establish a Logistics Cluster strategy, based on solid cost/benefit analysis, to address the relevant gaps and needs identified with partners and the priorities identified by the Humanitarian Country Team (i.e. through augmented coordination, information sharing, logistics services, capacity building, etcetera); and, update it regularly according to evolving needs.
