JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Job Purpose

This consultancy will strengthen GRSP’s evidence-based road safety training programmes through strategic development and delivery support. The consultant will have an excellent understanding of the components of the Safe System approach to road safety, an extensive knowledge of contemporary global road safety and public health research, experts and decision makers as well as a good understanding of international road safety funding models and opportunities. The consultant will also have experience in and understanding of technical and legislative facilitators and barriers to effective road safety policy and legislative development, road policing capacity building and programme implementation in the context of low- and middle-income countries.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

 

At the direction of the GRSP Senior Manager or Chief Executive Officer (CEO):

  • Strategically support GRSP with the development and delivery of evidence-based road safety training courses and programmes that are based on the safe system approach.
  • Develop course agendas, create content and deliver courses that maximise participant interaction, facilitate networking opportunities and employ data-based local and regional good practice examples. Course delivery modalities may thereby include face-to-face, online or blended delivery approaches.
  • Works closely with GRSP partners and international experts and stakeholders on the development and delivery of all assigned programmes.
  • Develops new technical training resources, including expanding the suite of global road safety and road policing courses, considering global trends and their relevance to the low- and middle-income context.
  • Travels to locations, including to low- or middle-income countries as required to plan or deliver programmes.

Upon commission of consultant services, specific Terms of Reference (ToR) will be provided. TORs will include specific project objectives, desired outcomes, consultancy outputs, method of delivery and time requirements.

Notes

The consultant will be contracted by the IFRC and the standard contractual terms will apply.

 

Education

 

Required

  • Postgraduate degree in public health, road safety, communication or related fields, with a focus on behavioural risk factors.
  • Relevant technical training in road safety.

 

Experience

 

Required

  • At least 10 years’ experience working in the field of global road safety, with a preference for experience in road safety in the low- and middle-income country context.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training programmes, including the development of complex theoretical content for lay audiences, using interactive group work elements, online, face-to-face and blended delivery modes.
  • Experience in working with multiple international partners to implement training programmes.
  • Experience delivering technical content, particularly focused on road safety
  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex partnerships to facilitate programmatic outcomes.
