Duties and Responsibilities
Background: The United Nations Resident Coordinator Office in the State of Kuwait is seeking a dynamic and creative Communication Intern to support its public information and strategic communication work. Under the direct supervision of the Public Information Officer (PIO), the intern will assist in content development, digital engagement, media outreach, and communications reporting. The internship offers valuable exposure to high-level communication efforts in a multilateral setting, as well as opportunities to develop professional skills in media and public information. The intern will support the following tasks: – Support implementation of the office’s communication and visibility strategy. – Assist in content creation and media outreach for UN initiatives and campaigns. – Enhance the UN’s digital presence through effective social media support. – Support event communication and documentation. – Assist in drafting and editing press releases, media advisories, newsletters, feature stories, and web articles. – Research and prepare background information, talking points, and communication briefs as needed. – Contribute to the planning and execution of digital campaigns, particularly around international observances and thematic priorities. – Support photo and video documentation of UN events, activities, and missions. – Maintain a media contact database and assist in media monitoring. – Assist in coordinating media engagements and interviews with UN officials. – Run engagement campaigns such as Q&A sessions, polls, challenges, and interactive content. – Monitor trending topics and adapt content to boost visibility. – Help develop platform-specific content strategies for Instagram, Twitter, You Tube and website. – Support with planning and executing content calendars in alignment with UN campaigns and international observances. – Ensure all content aligns with UN branding, tone, and messaging guidelines. – Help identify and engage with relevant local influencers, youth groups, and partners to amplify UN messages. – Assist in organizing virtual and in-person communication events. – Monitor and report on media coverage of UN activities in Kuwait. – Perform any other related duties as assigned by the PIO. The duration of a United Nations internship is for a minimum of two months on a full-time basis – this may be exceptionally extended for a maximum period of six months.

Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: 1. Applicants must: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above); 2. Applicants must: (a) be computer literate in standard software applications. (b) have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter; and (c) have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English and Arabic is required. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
