Area of ​​activity

Universal Health Coverage (UHC), as enshrined in Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3.8, calls for a comprehensive approach to health care and social protection: All people should have access to health services of appropriate quality without financial hardship. A high level of cross-sectoral commitment to building robust health systems to finance UHC is crucial to accelerating progress towards SDG 3.8.
Through the BACKUP Health Programme, GIZ supports global and national health financing in cooperation with national and international partners from various sectors. The aim is to enable better coordination and alignment (in line with the Paris and Lusaka Agendas) of available resources in the health sector and to build health system capacity for UHC. Here, BACKUP leverages the added value of collaboration in relevant networks, specifically with the global network for health financing and social protection in case of illness, the “Providing for Health Network” (P4H).

Your tasks

As an intern in the global project BACKUP Health in the Health Financing/P4H component, you will be supervised and independently undertake tasks that support the team’s activities. This includes, in particular, effectively supporting the staff working at the Bonn location in the key areas of health financing:

Insight into the daily work of BACKUP Health, especially the health financing team
Participation in meetings and various specialist events of the company
Preparation and follow-up of internal and external appointments and events
Learning about GIZ-specific administrative and organizational tasks
Support in communication with our partners

Your profile

Student from the sixth semester onwards, preferably in the fields of health sciences, social sciences, economics or related fields.
Initial knowledge and practical experience in the field of development cooperation.
(Specialist) knowledge of global health policy, health financing, universal health coverage, as well as their actors, international processes and agreements is desirable.
Good language skills in German and English.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strategic thinking.
Strong initiative.
High level of teamwork skills.
