JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Position Summary:
The Curriculum Development Officer / Deputy Team Leader (National) plays a vital role in supporting the successful implementation of senior secondary curriculum reform in the Solomon Islands. As the principal national counterpart to the international Team Leader, this position is responsible for ensuring strong coordination between the consulting team and the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD). The role is embedded in a highly collaborative reform process that seeks to align the national curriculum with emerging priorities such as climate resilience, gender equality, and inclusive education.

The Deputy Team Leader will assist with the drafting and contextualization of curriculum frameworks, syllabi, and teaching and learning materials (TLMs), while facilitating workshops, validation events, and stakeholder consultations. A key focus of this role is to ensure the curriculum content and delivery approaches are grounded in the realities of the Solomon Islands education system, culturally relevant, and practically oriented. The Officer will serve as a key liaison with MEHRD’s Curriculum Development Division and help manage communication between international consultants and national stakeholders.

Equally important is the role’s emphasis on capacity development and mentorship. The Deputy Team Leader will support the day-to-day coordination of curriculum writing teams, guide the work of national subject experts, and contribute to documentation and reporting processes. By fostering ownership among local staff and building institutional capacity, the Deputy ensures the sustainability of curriculum reforms and contributes to long-term system strengthening efforts in senior secondary education.

Key Responsibilities:

Support the Team Leader in coordinating Workstream 4 activities
Lead the development and review of curriculum package
Ensure curriculum alignment with national education standards
Supervise local curriculum development team members
Coordinate with schools and education stakeholders for curriculum piloting
Oversee the development of teachers’ guidelines
Monitor implementation progress and quality
Provide technical support to curriculum writers and reviewers
Conduct training workshops for teachers and curriculum officers
Develop training materials and resources
Mentor local curriculum development staff
Support knowledge transfer initiatives
Liaise with MEHRD officials
Coordinate with other workstream teams
Engage with school leaders and teachers
Facilitate community consultations on curriculum matters
Prepare regular progress reports
Document curriculum development processes
Contribute to project monitoring and evaluation
Maintain records of curriculum development activities

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum Development, or related field
Minimum 10+ years of experience in curriculum development or educational leadership roles in Solomon Islands
Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing educational programs in the Solomon Islands context
Strong knowledge of Solomon Islands education system and curriculum frameworks
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Proven leadership and team management capabilities
Experience in capacity building and professional development
