Our Work In Sierra Leone:

Partners In Health Sierra Leone (PIHSL) began supporting the government of Sierra Leone in response to the Ebola epidemic in October 2014. Recognizing the large need for continued investments in the health system after Ebola, PIH is committed to long-term health system strengthening in support of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS), guided by the same principles as our emergency response and our work around the world: public sector accompaniment, integrated and comprehensive services, social justice, nimbleness and flexibility, partnership, community ownership, and evidence-based interventions. In the aftermath of the epidemic, PIH is committed to supporting the delivery of comprehensive health services in Sierra Leone, from the community level to the health center and to referral hospitals.

Position Overview

Under the supervision of a Licensed Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technicians, the Pharmacy Assistant provides support in delivering medication and healthcare products to patients and consumers. They also help ensure clear and timely communication and collaboration among key stakeholders, including Koidu Government Hospital, PIH-Wellbody Clinic, and other supported hospitals and primary care facilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Label medication packaging appropriately before dispensing and label shelves appropriately
Stock shelves, check for expiries, and ensure adequate supply of medicines and consumables
Collect, organize, and evaluate patient information in regards to medications
Promote rational drug use
Maintain inventory by checking stock to determine its level and anticipate need
Prepare and compile dispensing records into the daily dispensary register
Receive prescriptions, check for completeness, and dispense drugs as required.
Ensures the pharmacy is clean and tidy
Operating under IPC protocols to protect patients and co-workers

Qualifications/Requirements

Certificate in Nursing (SECHN)
At least two years of formal work experience
Computer literacy and experience in Office programs: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
Ability to be flexible and effective in the face of unexpected challenges
Strong interpersonal skills; experience in counseling preferred
Proven ability to exercise good judgment, ensure patient confidentiality, and approach sensitive topics with respect
Commitment to social justice in health care issues.
Sense of humor and flexible disposition very helpful.
Ability to live in rural Kono District for the full duration of the contract
