KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: (not all-inclusive, within delegated authority)
Provide technical support for the planning and implementation of regenerative agriculture and sustainable land management activities, including agroecology, soil restoration, agroforestry, water harvesting, and crop diversification.
Support WFP field teams, cooperating partners, and smallholder cooperatives to pilot and scale climate-smart and regenerative practices in arid and semi-arid zones.
Contribute to value chain strengthening for crops and livestock products that are ecologically suited to Somalia’s environment, ensuring gender and youth inclusion in all stages of the chain.
Assist in designing and delivering capacity-building packages for field staff, government counterparts, and farmer organizations on regenerative methods, sustainable input use, and climate risk management.
Support community-led approaches such as half-moon farming, farmer-managed natural regeneration (FMNR), and participatory climate adaptation planning.
Facilitate linkages between smallholder producers and local, regional, and international markets through partnerships with private sector actors, market platforms, and inclusive business models.
Support the development of market intelligence tools (e.g., price monitoring, demand mapping, storage/transport bottlenecks) to enable more informed decisions across the value chain
With technical support from the Environmental and Social Safeguards Advisor based at Global Office, promote awareness of WFP’s environmental and social (E&S) risks/impacts and of the safeguard’s framework as a tool for systematically managing those risks/impacts.
Support WFP Somalia to comply with national laws and regulations related to environmental and social aspects.
Support research and learning partnerships to generate evidence on the benefits of agriculture models in Somalia (e.g., productivity, nutrition, climate resilience).
Liaise with government line ministries (MoAI, MoLFR) to ensure alignment with national agroecological and land restoration strategies
Draft technical briefs, case studies, donor proposals and reports, and concept notes related to food systems, resilience, and ecosystem-based approaches.
Represent WFP in relevant technical working groups, field missions, and resilience coordination platforms.
Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
Education: Advanced University Degree in any Agricultural Science (Agriculture, Horticulture, Agriculture Education and Extension, Agribusiness/ Agricultural Economics), Range management, Natural Resource Management, International development, or other field relevant to food security/ food systems and resilience building, Or University Degree with additional years of related work experience as an added value
Experience: At least three (3) years of relevant experience with Advanced University Degree OR First University degree with minimum of five (5) or more years of relevant experience in food systems, regenerative agriculture, dryland farming, or resilience programming and experience working in arid/semi-arid regions and in cross-sectoral programming (climate, agriculture, nutrition).
Languages: Fluent knowledge (proficiency/level C) of English and Somali language.
Knowledge & Skills:
In-depth knowledge of food systems resilience programming in humanitarian and development settings and linkages with food security and nutrition.
Advanced coordination skills, with ability to liaise and lead effectively across multiple teams for multifunctional outcomes
Advanced communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate through multiple mediums (e.g. policy, advocacy messaging, reporting, training)
Sound knowledge and skills in adult learning.
Team spirit and excellent interpersonal relations.
Knowledge of the UN system, including gender-related mandates is an asset.
Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, etc)
