Office Description/Unit/Project
During the fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties of the Biological Diversity Agreement, a World Biodiversity Framework was adopted after 2020 as a step towards the 2050 vision of “living in harmony with nature.”In its decision 14/34, the Conference of the Parties of the Biological Diversity Agreement adopted an integral and participatory process for the preparation of the World Frame of Biological Diversity (GBF-EAS) after 2020.
To support compliance with this goals, the World Environment Fund (GEF) implements the “Umbed Project that supports the update of national biodiversity-NBSAPS strategies and plans and the preparation of the 7th National Report to the Biological Diversity Agreement-CDB” (whose short name is a gef-semi-seating project).
This global program will help countries review and update their national biodiversity strategies and action plans to align with the global biodiversity framework of Kunming-Montreal above agreed above and allow the effective implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CDB) and the World Biodiversity Framework of Kunming-Montreal at the national level.In addition, this subsidy helps countries prepare and present its seventh national report on the implementation of the Biological Diversity and the World Biodiversity framework of Kunming-Montreal.
The Gef-Sepella project is implemented through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and is executed directly with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Ecological Transition (MAATE), acting by the National Directorate of Bioodiveness as the focal point of it.
For the development of the project, the following activities are available:
Development and implementation of a comprehensive participation plan for interested parties;Development of Analysis and National Gender Action Plan;and evaluation of social and environmental impacts
Technical research, identification and prioritization of essential gaps and inconsistencies between the existing NBSAP and the changes necessary to achieve the global biodiversity framework, developing a first approach of spatial priorities for goal 1 and developing a space action plan for other goals based on areas;
Identification of an Action Plan to gradually eliminate or eliminate harmful subsidies and incentives to biodiversity within the NBSAP, including the evaluation of the gaps in the capacities and resources available and, on that basis, develop plans or strategies for the development of capacities and the mobilization of resources, provide a brief description of the report of the report, review of the status of the strategy and national action plan on the national action and planKunming-Montreal Biodiversity World Center;
Evaluation of progress towards national goals and progress related to the goals and objectives of the World Biological Diversity framework of Kunming-Montreal and the completion of the conclusions on the application of the agreement and the world framework of biological diversity of Kunming-Montreal.
With this background, the gef-custlar project requires the hiring of an associate project in biodiversity, to support at the technical level in its execution, including the elaboration of reports and technical assistance to the Directorate of Biodiversity of the MAATE on this project.
Work scope
The associate (a) of project in biodiversity to hire will have as the responsibility the efficient development of the following tasks:
Accompany the Biodiversity Directorate and the Coordination of the Project in the management and development of activities to obtain supplies related to the National Biodiversity Strategy (2030) and its Action Plan (2021), its monitoring systems and respective financing strategy.
Systematize the inputs generated for the review of the National Biodiversity Strategy (2030) and its Action Plan and integrate the technical Produstoc of the different consultancies in the NBSAP update process led by the MAATE.
Generate terms of reference and support the processes of contracting consultants and monitoring the schedules, products and results of the Gef Umbrella project.
Perform literature reviews, knowledge management, information compilation and data collection on projects relevant to the project, such as biodiversity and ecosystem in national, local and international contexts, sustainable development, among others.
Prepare documents and required reports that show the activities carried out and the progress in the execution of the project.
Provide support in communication ý Coordination of spaces with the key project partners in meetings, workshops and work sessions with actors from the public sector, academia, private sector and civil society that are planned.
Other additional activities requested by the coordination in relation to the execution of the project.
Institutional Agreement
The associate (a) of project in biodiversity will be under the direct supervision of the coordination of the Gef Umbrella and UNDP project through its country office.Additionally, you must coordinate your activities together with the MAATE Biodiversity Directorate and the focal points defined for the project.

Minimum requirements for the NPSA
Academic titles:
Bachelor’s degree (full secondary education) is required.
Third level university degree (degree/engineering) in areas related to environmental sciences, economic sciences or related careers, will be considered favorably, but it is not a requirement.
Desirable postgraduate studies as the first year of mastery, superior specialization or equivalent in environmental management, sustainable development, biodiversity policies, or issues related to environmental sciences and/or conservation of biodiversity.
Years of experience required:
Minimum six (6) years of experience (with secondary education) or three (3) years of experience (with third level university degree) in environmental studies, biology, ecology, geographical engineering, natural resources management, biodiversity, and/or social sciences/economy.
Desirable: experience in the writing or editing of at least 2 technical documents, articles, papers, workshops, consulting reports or others.
Desirable: 1 year of experience in the United Nations system and/or international cooperation and/or in public institutions of the Executive.
Desirable: 1 year of experience in participatory processes, organization of workshops and related such as facilitator, presenter, moderator, monitor, or similar.
Other knowledge and capacities:
High knowledge of Office Software (MS Word, Excel, PPT).
Ability to analyze variety of data, identify and adjust discrepancies, identify and solve operational problems.
Ability to consolidate, write and edit reports oriented to different audiences.
Ability to handle a high workload.
Required languages:
Spoken and written Spanish fluidity
Basic English language level.
Availability to travel:
The associate (a) of project in biodiversity will have availability for national or international displacements when required.
