Job Overview:
As a member of the Strategy & Delivery Unit you will enable the IRC to put its strategy into action. We work on projects ranging from helping the organization to measure and improve its performance to identifying solutions to enable rapid growth in our program offices, and your work will spread far and wide within IRC. Ultimately, we work to help IRC deliver greater impact for those who we work with and serve, including more than 30 million people worldwide affected by conflict and crisis.
The Strategy Manager will provide planning and problem-solving support to the organization. They will be part of a small, tight-knit project team that will quickly break down problems and iterate rapidly towards evidence-based solutions, creating consensus and building partnerships along the way. This is an exciting position which requires strong strategic problem-solving skills, excellent interpersonal skills, a high level of personal initiative and the ability to work well in a distributed, multicultural, dynamic environment.
The role sits within the Strategy & Delivery Unit. The formal reporting line is to the Head of Strategy & Delivery, but day-to-day reporting will depend on the assigned project.
Major Responsibilities:
- Be responsible for a substantive work stream within a larger project, or smaller stand-alone projects, under the supervision of a Senior Manager or Associate Director
- Produce critical analyses that feed into the bigger problem the team is solving
- Generate insights and evidence-based user-centric solutions, advised by industry standards, analysis and extensive consultation with IRC staff
- Apply structure to ambiguous, sophisticated problems
- Manage relationships and collaborate closely with mid-level and senior staff across the IRC
- Facilitate decision-making and consensus-building with a team
- Contribute effectively to the work-streams of others on the team as required, and participate in full-team problem-solving
- Give and receive regular developmental feedback and contribute actively to crafting a positive, focused and effective working environment
Job Requirements:
Work / Educational Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Approximately 3-5 years of relevant work experience, at least two of which in a strategy or organizational performance role, with gradually increasing responsibilities and a track record of high performance
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
- Experience driving strategic change
- Capability to handle multiple demands in short time frames
- Strong organizational and time-management skills; proven track record of prioritizing and delivering on time
- Proven attention to detail and strong analytical skills
- Competent in structuring and creatively solving sophisticated problems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as an overall ability to be clear and concise in all communications
- Strong meeting facilitation and presentation skills
- Experience working effectively with partners at all levels
- Highly collaborative and able to work independently in a dynamic, cross-functional distributed team structure
- Ability to respond enthusiastically and positively to ambiguity, be resilient to shifting priorities and setbacks, and be comfortable with imperfect analysis and solutions Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite
Preferred experience & skills:
- Experience in a strategy role at either a strategy consulting firm, or in the strategy function of a global organization
- Experience in a humanitarian or development organization, or similar
- Knowledge of French, Arabic or Spanish
