Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Humanitarian Advocacy Advisor to join our global team. 

 

Team purpose

To drive local to global influencing efforts by establishing a cohesive and relevant advocacy, campaign, child rights governance and child participation agenda aligned with our global strategy, thereby driving impact at scale. By leveraging evidence and analysis, and promoting a culture of learning, we ensure a child rights approach is embedded in all our initiatives, while partnering with country offices to prepare, scale-up, and execute effective operational humanitarian advocacy efforts. Our team co-owns the delivery of advocacy, campaigning, and mobilization strategies and leads child participation approaches across all programs to empower children and amplify their voices in decision-making processes.

 

Role purpose

To ensure the alignment of humanitarian advocacy with Save the Children International”s global strategy, PAC strategy and and international standards, the Senior Humanitarian Advocacy Advisor will directly provide expert advocacy guidance, training, and capacity building to country offices as well as other external stakeholders where required,  fostering a culture of continuous learning and development to respond to high priority & categorised responses as well as wider humanitarian contexts. Additionally, the role involves representing Save the Children in high-level forums, engaging with decision makers, and leveraging existing networks to advance our operational humanitarian advocacy objectives, ultimately contributing to the positive impact on humanitarian policies affecting children.  This role will also support wider thought leadership and promotion of best practices in key themes such as Children and Armed Conflict, protection of children”s rights in protracted crises and humanitarian action

Principal Accountabilities 

• Provide strategic and direct specialised context specific surged humanitarian advocacy support, expertise, thought leadership and innovative solutions to Country Office (CO) teams ensuring high standards in key prioritised and categorised responses.
• Facilitate/provide coaching and training to  CO ACCM teams on humanitarian advocacy responses and promote a community of practice between humanitarian prioritised COs working on humanitarian advocacy initiatives.
• Develop key advocacy materials including briefings and messages to directly support CO humanitarian advocacy work.
• Represent and support COs on global TWGs/APWGs where necessary and useful 
• Monitor, evaluate, and document the outcomes of humanitarian advocacy initiatives in key priority countries, ensuring continuous improvement and demonstrating the impact of our contributions to humanitarian policy changes.
• Drive the local to global approach by connecting CO humanitarian responses with strategic regional and global opportunities to drive national change in humanitarian crisis working in close collaboration with the senior child rights, advocacy and campaign advisors.
• Engage with key allies, partners, networks and high level stakeholders to drive our operational humanitarian advocacy approach in key prioritised responses. 
• Support and input into the development of key policy initiatives on critical thematic areas involving Children and Armed Conflict, protection of children”s rights in protracted humanitarian ensuring these align with international humanitarian standards and our organisational goals.                                                                 
• Promote a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within all programmes, ensuring all interventions are accessible and effective for all community members, regardless of background or identity. 

 

Experience and Skills 

 

Essential 

Humanitarian and Advocacy Experience:

• Significant experience working in humanitarian and fragile, conflict-affected settings, with exposure to children affected by armed conflict (particularly in Asia and/or Africa)
• Considerable experience in developing and implementing advocacy strategies focused on children”s rights in humanitarian crises.
• Proficient experience in providing direct support to country offices on humanitarian advocacy and policy issues.

 

Institutional Experience:

• Demonstrated experience with  influencing across regional, continental, and multilateral institutions, including understanding key frameworks for protecting children”s rights.
• Experience engaging with and representing organisations to decision makers, as well as fostering networks of expertise.

 

Research and Analysis:

• Experience in conducting research and analysis on issues related to children in humanitarian crises.

 

Capacity Building and Training:

• Experience in delivering training and building capacities of country teams and partners in advocacy.

 

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Documentation:

• Extensive experience in monitoring, evaluating, and documenting the outcomes of advocacy initiatives to ensure effective feedback and continuous improvement.

• Demonstrable commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with experience in advocating for marginalised groups.

 

Education and Qualifications 

 

Essential 

• Advanced degree (Master’s or higher) in a relevant field such as International Relations, Human Rights, International Development, Law, or Social Sciences.
• Certification or specialised training in human rights, international humanitarian law, or child protection is highly desirable.
• French as an additional language is highly desirable
