The Position:
UNFPA is seeking the services of an international consultant provide technical support for the introduction of Depot Medroxyprogesterone Acetate Subcutaneous (DMPA-SC) in Vanuatu, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Kiribati, and the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI). The international consultant will facilitate a co-design workshop with stakeholders in Vanuatu and FSM to develop strategies for DMPA-SC introduction and will conduct training of trainers (ToT) for healthcare workers in Kiribati and RMI to ensure effective implementation and integration into national reproductive health programs.

DMPA-SC, a subcutaneous injectable contraceptive, offers a safe, effective, and user-friendly option to expand access to family planning services, particularly in resource-constrained settings. Introducing DMPA-SC in Vanuatu, FSM, Kiribati, and RMI requires tailored strategies to address local health system capacities, stakeholder priorities, and community needs.
To ensure successful introduction, a co-design workshop with stakeholders in Vanuatu and FSM will align efforts, identify barriers, and develop actionable plans for DMPA-SC integration. Building on the success of 2024 co-design workshops in Kiribati and RMI, and endorsements of the introduction plans by their respective Ministries of Health, UNFPA will facilitate training of trainers (ToT) for healthcare workers in these two countries. This training will strengthen local capacity to deliver DMPA-SC services, ensuring quality and sustainability.
To advance the introduction of DMPA-SC in these four Pacific Island Countries, UNFPA Pacific is seeking a skilled short-term consultant to drive collaborative efforts with stakeholders and health systems. The consultant will facilitate co-design workshops in Vanuatu and FSM to shape context specific introduction strategies and lead training of trainers in Kiribati and RMI, ensuring healthcare workers are equipped to deliver DMPA-SC services. This role will strengthen partnerships and align with UNFPA’s mission to expand family planning access and support Sustainable Development Goals in the region.

Advanced University (Masters or Postgraduate) Degree in Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health, or other relevant technical field. A PhD is an added advantage.
