| Main purpose of job:
The Digital Diplomacy and Communications Officer will play a central role in the British Embassy Manila, producing high-quality multimedia content including graphics, photography, videography, video editing, copywriting, and web content management. They are responsible for the end-to-end production of social media content—from planning and creation to analysis.
The successful candidate will be energetic, highly organised and have a keen eye for compelling, culturally appropriate storytelling and the ability to translate complex policy work into engaging visual content.
This is a great early career role for someone to help capture and tell the British Embassy Manila’s stories to the Filipino and British audiences.
The successful candidate will work as part of the British Embassy’s Public Diplomacy Team. Under the direction of the Communications and Campaigns Manager, the candidate is responsible for developing and implementing the British Embassy’s visual identity through multimedia content to be published on the Embassy’s digital channels.
The Digital Diplomacy and Communications Officer is part of a dynamic and fast-paced Public Diplomacy Team, working regularly with the Ambassador, Deputy Ambassador and senior diplomats across the Embassy. Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:
Initiative, flexibility, big imagination, organisation/prioritisation will be key characteristics and skills for this job. You will be working with the Public Diplomacy team on external communication across the Philippines, tailoring the message to different audiences that will include: high-level government stakeholders, business community, British Nationals in the Philippines, and public and other key audiences.
The Digital Diplomacy and Communications Officer is proactive in identifying opportunities to support Embassy priorities and to promote positive images of the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
Multimedia Content Creation & Visual Storytelling (60%)
- Designs and develops multimedia content such as infographics, social media assets, brochures, reports and presentations using Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or other appropriate software
- Captures high-quality photography and videography at events, visits, and stakeholder engagements
- Produces professionally edited videos, including short-form content optimised for digital and social media use, in line with the Embassy’s visual identity
- Develop creative visual content to support strategic campaigns, events, and public diplomacy activities
- Transforms technical policy-heavy text into clear, engaging social media captions. Collaborates closely with Communications and Campaigns Manager, and policy experts within the embassy to co-create captions that are accessible and easy for the public to understand
Social Media Management (30%)
- Creates and manages social media content calendars for digital platforms
- Oversees uploading of social media content using tools like Hootsuite, ensuring timely publication and proper tagging of relevant accounts across digital platforms.
- Tracks engagement metrics ie. views, likes, shares, and provides insights and recommendations for improving future content based on performance data.
- Manages Embassy communications received through the British Embassy Manila digital channels such as email, responding in a professional manner, in coordination with relevant teams.
Communication Support (10%)
- Supports the execution of public diplomacy activities, events, and media engagement with timely production of photo and video content.
- Maintains a media and content archive, ensuring proper tagging, storage and usage rights of all digital assets.
- Undertakes other communications-related duties as required by the Communications and Campaigns Manager.
Crisis Handling (as needed):
- Be part of the Embassy crisis preparation team, undergoing learning and practice of how to conduct embassy communications, in particular digital communications, in a crisis situation (e.g. a political situation, or an event such as a natural disaster that impacts British nationals in the Philippines and Palau).
