Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

Main purpose of job:

This job offers the successful candidate an opportunity to work in the high-performing Department for Business & Trade (DBT) team at the British Office in Taipei. DBT’s role is to promote UK’s business interests worldwide, and the job holder will contribute to the UK’s prosperity and economic growth by driving Taiwanese businesses interests in investing in the UK and promoting UK businesses exports to Taiwan. The successful candidate will lead on designing and delivering online and offline marketing and communications strategies and activities for key areas of focus for DBT team, including supporting our priority campaigns in driving inward Investment to the UK and in trade (Technology, Space/Telecom, Clean Energy and Cyber Security), and potential emerging sectors. The role will also support developing and delivering the visit programmes for DBT high-level visits, including ministers and senior officials, where required.

The successful candidate will be part of a supportive and collaborative network at the British Office in Taipei, working closely with trade and investment colleagues in DBT and sit in the British Office’s Comms team, as well as taking strategic direction from the DBT APAC Marcomms Hub in Singapore, and working with the DBT Global Marcomms Hub both in London and in Hong Kong and GREAT-brand teams, to successfully deliver evidence-based, insight-driven marketing activities.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?

Core responsibilities:

Marketing and Communications

Support for the trade & investment team in Taiwan:

  • You will support the DBT teams for each priority areas to develop and implement strategic marketing solutions and OASIS-based campaigns, including developing key messages such as press releases and op-eds, utilising existing and emerging communication channels (including traditional/online media and social media such as LinkedIn) and producing content and marketing collateral for the campaigns. Key activities for trade and investment which require marketing support include trade missions, investment-driven campaigns, UK-Taiwan Trade Talks, UK-Taiwan Enhanced Trade Partnership and thought leadership visits (promoting the UK offer / opportunities in Taiwan via media interviews, op-eds, podcasts).
  • You will act as the custodian of the DBT Taiwan Forward Look of key activities, in charge of the internal comms between Taiwan Team, APAC regional teams based in Singapore/Thailand and DBT HQs teams, and leverage, bid for and manage the comms & marketing resources/funding across the APAC region and HQs.
  • You will also identify opportunities to collaborate with cross-government partners (including Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ)) and external partners (including the British Chamber of Commerce in Taipei) to deliver coordinated marketing campaigns, including the annual UK-Taiwan sector dialogues, UK-Taiwan collaborative R&D projects and Better Business Awards.
  • Importantly, you will evaluate deliveries with qualitative analysis and applied insight to inform future marketing plans and to identify cross cutting opportunities.

GREAT Britain Brand Champion for trade and investment events in Taiwan:

  • Operate as British Office’s champion for the GREAT Britain brand campaign and work closely with GREAT-brand teams. You will ensure activities are in line with GREAT marketing guidelines and promote the campaign across Post, especially through the country pavilions demonstrated at the trade shows and marketing materials produced. High-level Visits/Events

This is a broad support role for a variety of visit-related activities across the British Office’s DBT Section. Working with teams across the British Office, the office of His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner, and London-based colleagues to deliver high quality visits for DBT Ministers and DBT senior officials, where required:

  • Supporting the development of the marcom element of the visit itineraries with clear objectives;
  • Liaising with internal stakeholders and external organisations involved in the visits;
  • Utilising comms & marketing tools to maximise the impact of the visits in Taiwan

Additional requirements:

This role involves occasional travel within Taiwan, Asia Pacific and to the UK.

Resources managed (staff and expenditure):

Management of the assigned APAC regional marketing budget and campaign-related budget and expenditure

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

  • At least 3 years relevant working experience in marketing and public relations (communications)
  • Demonstrable professional experience with successful delivery in a range of communications disciplines including PR, marketing, events and social media.
  • Project Management skills and event delivery experiences
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence in working with seniors
  • Ability to take the initiative and work pro-actively with agile flexibility in the context of changing priorities
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills with people from diverse backgrounds. Proven ability to engage, influence and collaborate with specialists in different business industries.

Language requirements:

Language: Mandarin and English

Level of language required: Mandarin – native fluency required / English – fluent (written and spoken)

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

  • Experiences in B2B or G2B marketing & communications

Working Patterns:

British Office Taipei has a strong commitment to work/life balance. Standard office hours are 9.00-17.00 with flexi-hours possibility within the opening hours 8.30-18.30 Monday to Friday. We also have mobile technology and offer hybrid working with remote working options to be agreed with line managers.

(The successful candidates should also be flexible as there may be some work out of hours to meet business needs.)
