Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

The British Embassy in Minsk is part of a world-wide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas.

We are looking to recruit two Drivers (1 full-time position, 1 part-time position) who will drive Embassy staff and perform other driving duties as required, while also having responsibilities as Security Guards.

Roles and responsibilities:

As Driver:

  • Driving Embassy’s staff as required including regular regional trips and long-distance trips;
  • Performing other driving duties (diplomatic bags, letters, invitations, etc) as directed by Embassy’s staff;
  • Keeping the vehicle clean and serviceable in line with Embassy’s transport policy and manufacturer’s manual;
  • Ensuring all passengers wear seatbelts and follow safety requirements;
  • Keeping accurate records of all journeys in a vehicle logbook;
  • Ensuring that timesheets are maintained and submitted on time;
  • Ensuring compliance with the FCDO’s transport policies and regulations;
  • Providing assistance with courier runs;
  • Performing ad hoc tasks around the Embassy as required, moving/lifting heavy items, covering for the reception, customs clearance procedures, etc).

Additionally, the jobholder will also have responsibilities as Security Guard:

  • Controlling access to the British Embassy building;
  • Ensuring that no unauthorised items are brought into the Embassy;
  • Managing parking around the Embassy.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

Essential on arrival:

  • Fluency in Russian at C1 level and in English at A2 level, according to the CEFR*;
  • Driving experience of at least 5 years;
  • Professional attitude, able to greet and assist visitors and the public in a polite and respectful way;
  • Ability to work in a team and respond flexibly to changing circumstances and extra duties;
  • Good health and physical condition (medical certificate required): must be able to drive long distances and to lift heavy items (e.g. carry large water bottles and similar items);
  • Prepared to undertake short-notice trips at irregular hours;
  • Clean criminal record.

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

Nice to have:

  • Experience working in an international organisation or Embassy.

Please note that we are looking to recruit 2 vacancies: 1 full-time position of 36 hours gross per week, and 1 part-time position of 18 hours gross per week. You have the opportunity to indicate which of the two positions you wish to apply for during your application.

Working patterns: These positions don”t have fixed working hours. Working pattern will include early slots and late hours. It may also require overnight stay for long trips (e.g. Vilnius, Warsaw). Overtime is paid and time off in lieu (TOIL) is provided.

Candidates must hold a valid Belarusian driving licence and passport.

The successful candidates will be subject to professional background and security clearance.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Minsk are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Belarus employment law.
