Context

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day.

Every year, the UNITE Campaign focuses on a specific theme. The campaign calls on citizens to show how much they care about ending violence against women and girls by sharing the actions they are taking to create a world free from violence towards women.

UNFPA, in cooperation with UN,V has established a Special Programme Initiative , aiming at engaging UN Volunteers to support UNFPA and in particular, the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign in Moldova.

The selected UN Community Volunteers will assist the UNFPA team in Moldova in:
Awareness, Advocacy and Outreach: Supporting UNFPA to organize local events, online campaigns, and use social media to amplify messages about ending violence against women. In addition selected UN Community Volunteers will engage in creative activism through art and community outreach, raising awareness and promoting stories.

Key Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of UNFPA Communications Analyst, the UN Community Volunteer will:
– Undergo training on processes and activities undertaken by UNFPA under the 16 Days of Activism against GBV campaign.
– Assist UNFPA to organize local events such as marches, panel discussions, or webinars that raise awareness of violence against women and girls at the community level, in line with the UNFPA planned activities.
– Assist in amplifying messages about ending violence against through social media campaigns managed by UNFPA by sharing this information with peers and online community.
– Engage community members, volunteers, and leaders in spreading messages of ending gender-based violence.
– Assist in the creation of content and stories and promote messages of ending gender based violence.
– Assist UNFPA to organize and facilitate small group discussions or meetings to educate the public about the 16 Days of Activism campaign.
– Draft and develop articles showcasing UNFPA’s work in Moldova to be featured on global platforms.
– Support digital marketing efforts with a particular focus on communications for social media platforms, including the design and implementation of targeted Twitter/X campaigns.
– Collaborate with UNFPA Moldova’s Implementing Partner on the joint communication campaign and outreach strategy, including accompanying their team during rural outreach programmes.
– Collect and curate human stories, survivor/testimonial narratives, and video content during outreach activities to highlight the impact of Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV) campaigns, raise awareness, and capture public perceptions of the platform.
– Contribute gathered stories and visual content to UNFPA’s broader communications initiatives and advocacy materials.
– Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Living Conditions

This is a volunteer assignment, not employment. By sharing your time, energy, and talents, you can support communities in need and become part of something greater than yourself — a global movement for peace, development, and humanitarian aid. Volunteering strengthens trust, solidarity, and reciprocity among citizens, promoting a sense of belonging and purpose.

– If the selected UN Community Volunteer is required to travel or attend specific events, travel and daily meal expenses will be covered by the Host Entity.
– Upon successful completion of the assignment, UN Community Volunteer will receive a UNV Certificate of Service.
– The UN Volunteer will receive UNV-provided CIGNA medical insurance coverage for the duration of the assignment.
– There will be no payment, stipend, or any allowances.

Remarks:
Important: In addition to duty station specific vaccine requirements, appointments are subject to confirmation of fully vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the appointment.

UN Volunteer supporting Special Programme Initiative in the Europe and Central Asia region:

The support provided by the UN Volunteer for events supporting the host UN entity in the region of Europe and Central Asia is a Special Programme Initiative (SPI) by UNV. SPIs respond to volunteer-specific needs of the United Nations system and donor entities. They are established by specific policy documents that address the desired programmatic aims and broader SDGs’ outcomes in line with UNV guiding principles. UN Volunteers for this SPI in the Europe and Central Asia region are governed by the particular conditions set out in their offers and contracts.
