Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

The British Embassy in Tehran has a vacancy for an Assistant at the Ambassador’s Residence, Grade S3 to start as soon as possible.

This role forms part of the cadre of staff supporting the Ambassador’s Residence. Residence staff are dedicated to supporting the official functions of the Residence and, on occasions, other official functions of the British Embassy as a whole. The Embassy Residence is foremost a venue for influence, and we expect our Residence team to maintain these standards.

As the Residence is also the home of the Head of Mission, Residence staff will also provide an element of private domestic help.

Duties and responsibilities:

Serving: 40%

  • To serve food and drinks for official events and entertainment hosted by the Head of Mission, Deputy Head of Mission and other staff as appropriate.
  • To serve food for official visitors staying in residence.
  • To serve refreshments, tea and coffee for staff meetings, staff coffee mornings, visitor meetings and other Internal events.

Cleaning: 40%

  • To carry out general cleaning in the official areas of the Residence and in other official premises when used for official Events/entertainment.
  • To carry out general cleaning and tidying up of Ambassador’s private area and guest rooms.
  • Make up beds and change linens as required.
  • Clean wash basins, mirrors, tubs and showers.
  • Wipe down surfaces.
  • Empty and clean waste containers.
  • Dispose of waste in a sanitary and environmentally friendly manner.
  • Wash dishes and clean kitchen according to good hygiene standard.
  • Maintain all cleaning equipment and ensure materials are safe and in good working condition.

Laundry (not for visitors): 20%

  • Sort, load and unload laundry.
  • Iron and press clothing and linen.
  • Sort, fold and put away clean laundry.

You will be expected to ensure a level of quality in the events delivered. This is not an exhaustive list but covers the key set of tasks and responsibilities. The jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad-hoc duties as required and upon discussion with the line manager. The Job holder will be expected to do all tasks within their level of skill and ability. The job description may be reviewed to meet changes in business needs.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must already reside and hold the right to work and live in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
  • The successful candidate will initially be offered a three (3) month contract to cover the probationary period. Following the satisfactory completion of the probationary period, a fixed term one (1) year renewable contract will be issued.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

  • Experience of working in an Ambassador’s Residence.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to engage at all levels internally and with external contacts and collaborate effectively across Embassy teams.
  • Strong work ethic and demonstration of high level of professionalism.
  • Excellent customer service skills, demonstrating courtesy and consideration in dealing with customers and other stakeholders.

Language requirements:

Language: English and Farsi
Level of language required: Fluent spoken and written.

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

  • Prior events management experience.
  • Experience in using Oracle Based finance, procurement and HR management systems.

Working hours and remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role.

The salary for this role is USD 1,493 per month (paid into a USD account of a local bank).

No accommodation is provided for this role. No relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

The successful candidate will initially be offered a three (3) month contract to cover the probationary period. Following the satisfactory completion of the probationary period, a fixed term one (1) year renewable contract will be issued.

This full-time role is based on working 42 hrs per week. Normal working hours are from 0730 to 1600 hrs Sunday to Wednesday, and 0730 to 1530 on Thursday. The successful candidate should be flexible in their approach to hours worked as there may be some work out of hours and occasionally anti-social hours required during events/visits.

The Embassy has an active Learning and Development Committee, and the whole of Post is committed to providing the time and resources for staff to develop personally and professionally. The 70/20/10 learning and development model is applied in a flexible manner, with extensive informal and formal opportunities readily available.
