JOB DESCRIPTION

WE ARE

DG Trade and Economic Security is responsible for leading the EU’s common commercial trade policy, one of the exclusive competences of the EU. Trade policy plays a critical role in enhancing the EU’s economic competitiveness, shaping globalisation, and defending the EU from unfair trade practices and threats to its economic security.

Unit E.l designs and coordinates the European Union’s trade policy with regard to the UK, EFTA/EEA countries, the Western Balkans, and the Eastern Neighbourhood countries. The Unit is the focal point for all trade-related contacts with these countries and their regional groupings, including trade negotiations as well as the implementation of relevant agreements with these countries.

The Unit coordinates DG TRADE’S input for the accession process (except for Turkiye). Unit E.l also monitors trade and investment policy developments, seeks to resolve market difficulties encountered by EU companies in the region, and ensures compliance with trade and investment bilateral and multilateral/WTO rules. It ensures close cooperation and coordination with the EU Delegations and offices in the UK, EFTA/EEA countries, the Western Balkans, and the Eastern Neighbourhood countries.

WE PROPOSE

Unit TRADE.E.l is seeking to hire a secretary to complete the secretariat team.

We propose an interesting position, with varied tasks, in a pleasant and cooperative working environment with an excellent team spirit. The successful candidate will work as a secretary to the Head of Unit and will provide secretarial support to the Deputy Head of Unit and members of the unit, whenever required.

Working in the unit’s two-person secretariat, the successful candidate will support the administration of the unit and carry out logistical tasks.

The position will involve everyday secretarial responsibilities such as handling external contacts, preparation and organization of meetings and missions, document management and monitoring deadlines. 5/he will also take care of the administrative handling of briefings, inter­service consultations, access to document requests, parliamentary questions and similar procedures. Moreover, the selected candidate will assist the policy officers with the standard procedures in relation to the handling of notes, letters, reports and other correspondence. The successful candidate may also be asked to replace other secretaries, as well as the Director’s secretary in case of short-term absences.

WE LOOK FOR

We are looking for a dynamic and well -organized secretary, capable of working as part of a team and independently. The successful candidate should have a high sense of initiative, responsibility, and discretion, and excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

The candidate should have very good written and oral communication skills in English. Good knowledge of French would be an asset. Additionally, Practical knowledge of the Commission’s administrative procedures and IT tools (ARES, MIPS, SYSPER, BASIS, DECIDE, ePoetry, V-PASS etc.) is a clear advantage. Flexibility in the working hours may also be required.
