Organization Mission

UNICEF Solomon Islands works with and for disadvantaged children and adolescents across the Pacific Islands. Our ambition is to get the entire country working together – as one – on behalf of its most vulnerable children.

We are looking for online volunteers to design IEC materials for 1000 days of early years based on Solomon Islands context. The purpose of the assignment is to develop context-appropriate materials that promote key messages on 1000 days especially focusing on nutrition. These IEC materials will be a catalyst to engage community influencers, leaders and communities.

Context

The purpose of this assignment is to develop engaging SBC (Social and Behavioral Change) IEC materials that will strengthen community engagement on key aspects of 1000 days. These IEC materials will support community engagement and communication with caregivers and communities to encourage the positive, sustainable behavior change while enhancing visibility of key action at the community level.

Objectives:
– Develop context-appropriate SBC IEC materials that promote key messages on child nutrition and health.
– Strengthen the communication capacity of frontline workers by providing practical, user-friendly materials that can be used during interpersonal communication, community sessions, and outreach in the Solomon Islands.
– Promote community dialogue and participation through interactive materials that encourage caregivers and families to adopt recommended family care and health seeking behaviors.

Key Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the SBC Specialist, UNICEF Solomon Islands, and in close collaboration with the Nutrition, health and MHMS focal points, the Online Volunteer will:

• Participate in an initial briefing session to align on key messages, audiences, and design direction.
• With consultation from the Focal Point, design and layout the following IEC materials: Posters (04), Banners (02), Leaflets (02), Button/badge (champions for promoting different behaviors), Calendars with tips (02 – IYCF and immunization), Stickers and Decals (reminders/nudge), Myth vs. Fact charts/cards, Pack for pregnant women/family on Strongfala Start for Pikinini, Window of opportunities (1000 days key behaviours and messages).
• Ensure all outputs follow UNICEF branding and accessibility guidelines which will be shared in advance through UNICEF communication officer.
• Share draft versions for review and integrate feedback.
• Deliver all materials in high-resolution print and web/digital formats.

Required Skills and Experience

Candidates should have:
– At least three years of professional experience in graphic design with previous experience in designing document layouts
– Must have in-depth knowledge of graphic design applications, as well as good verbal and written communication skills.
– A degree in graphic design or related field is considered an asset.
– Skill in operating designing software (Coral, Adobe Photoshop, Indesign)
– Prior experience working with Health and Nutrition and in Pacific would be an asset.
