Key Responsibilities:

JOB PURPOSE:

To lead and coordinate the strategic development of evidence-based, child- and community-focused communications that amplify the voices of vulnerable populations and demonstrate the impact of World Vision’s development and emergency response programs. This role ensures timely, ethical, and compelling storytelling across field sites and disaster zones, highlighting both the challenges faced by children and families and the transformative results of World Vision’s technical expertise, advocacy, and interventions serving as a key link between field realities and public engagement. The Officer will also serve as the FEC in Mindanao Field Office.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Content Strategy & Development.

– Lead the planning and creation of child- and community-focused stories, videos, and communications materials that reflect program impact and technical expertise.

– Ensure all content aligns with World Vision’s brand, safeguarding standards, and advocacy goals.

– Translate complex program data into accessible, emotionally resonant narratives for diverse audiences.

Field Coordination & Story Gathering

– Collaborate with field teams to identify compelling success stories, challenges, and community voices.

– Conduct interviews, gather visuals, and oversee ethical documentation in development and emergency contexts.

– Provide orientation and support to field staff on storytelling protocols and safeguarding compliance.

Emergency Communications

– Activate rapid content gathering and media coordination during disasters or humanitarian emergencies.

– Ensure production of timely updates, human-interest stories, and visual assets for internal and external use.

– Liaise with response teams to ensure communications reflect accurate needs, impact, and dignity.

Stakeholder Engagement

– Support donor visibility and partner communications through tailored content packages and field updates.

– Coordinate with national and regional communications teams to amplify field stories across platforms.

– Prepare briefing notes, media kits, and talking points for leadership and external stakeholders.

Safeguarding & Ethical Standards

– Uphold World Vision’s safeguarding policies in all content creation and dissemination.

– Ensure informed consent, cultural sensitivity, and privacy protection in all field documentation.

– Monitor and mitigate reputational risks related to communications activities.

KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE

Minimum 3–5 years experience in field-based communications, media production, or humanitarian storytelling

Strong writing, interviewing, and visual storytelling skills

Experience in emergency response communications is highly desirable

Knowledge of child protection, safeguarding, and ethical storytelling practices

Ability to work in cross-cultural settings and coordinate with diverse teams

Proficiency in photography, video editing, and digital content tools is an asset

Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, with a proactive and collaborative mindset

Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Development Studies, or related field

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

1. Child Rights & Safeguarding

Deep understanding of child protection principles, especially in communications

Familiarity with safeguarding protocols, consent procedures, ad ethical storytelling standards

2. Humanitarian & Development Contexts

Knowledge of humanitarian response frameworks and development programming

Awareness of sector-specific language (e.g. WASH, nutrition, education, DRR) and how to translate it for public audiences

3. Media & Content Strategy

Knowledge of media relations, content planning, and audience segmentation

Familiarity with donor communications, advocacy messaging, and brand alignment

4. Digital & Visual Storytelling

Proficiency in storytelling, photography, videography, and editing tools

Understanding of social media trends, platform-specific formats, and engagement strategies

Travel and/or Work Environment Requirement

Willingness to travel to remote or emergency-affected areas as needed
