Key Responsibilities
Supervision
- Under the overall supervision of the Media and Communications Officer, IOM OPT Mission.
Learning Objectives
- Gain hands-on experience in producing, editing, and organising multimedia materials aligned with IOM’s communication standards.
- Learn how to plan and execute multimedia assignments in coordination with communication teams and field colleagues.
- Develop an understanding of ethical storytelling and visual representation in humanitarian communication.
- Enhance skills in managing digital assets and adhering to branding and visibility guidelines.
- Understand IOM’s approach to humanitarian communication and the role of multimedia in advocacy and donor engagement.
Training Components and Learning Elements
- Under the guidance of the Communications officer, the intern will:
- Support the creation, editing, and organisation of multimedia content (photos, videos, and graphics) to document IOM’s Gaza Response activities.
- Assist in planning and coordinating photo and video shoots with photographers inside Gaza, implementing partners, and beneficiaries.
- Edit short videos and prepare photo selections for publication on digital and social media platforms.
- Organise and maintain multimedia archives and shared folders, ensuring proper metadata, labelling, and filing.
- Support in drafting captions, story outlines, or shot lists in alignment with IOM communication standards.
- Contribute to the development of visual content for social media campaigns and internal reports.
- Learn to apply IOM branding and visibility guidelines across multimedia products.
- Collaborate with the Regional Office and HQ communications teams to align materials with global communication objectives.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a relevant university degree programme (minimum bachelor”s level or equivalent); or
- Be enrolled in a relevant graduate degree programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
- Have graduated with a relevant university or graduate degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within one-year of graduation.
Experience
- Previous academic or volunteer experience in multimedia production, photography, videography, or communication, using software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Lightroom, or InDesign, is desirable.
- Experience in managing digital content, student media projects, or creative portfolios will be considered an advantage.
- Demonstrated interest in humanitarian or development communication is an asset.
Skills
- Proficiency in photo and video editing software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Lightroom, Canva, or similar tools).
- Strong attention to detail, creativity, and visual storytelling skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and content formats (Instagram, X, Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn)
Languages
Fluency in English and Arabic is required (oral and written)

- Depending on experience and location, interns are granted a small monthly stipend to help offset costs. Interns benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship granted by his/her university or other sponsoring body that includes financial remuneration or credits for coursework will not be eligible for the stipend.
- IOM covers Interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the assignment. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
