UNDP”s mandate is to end poverty, build democratic governance, rule of law, and inclusive institutions.

Context

The workshop is part of “Promoting Participation Pathways for Human Development” (3P4D), which seeks to contribute to creating an enabling environment for people’s participation in public life.

The goal of the 3P4D Initiative is to promote structural reforms aimed at fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment for public participation.

These reforms focus on a strategic combination of the following elements:

Regulatory Frameworks for Civic Space: Legal and administrative provisions that regulate the exercise of fundamental freedoms, including freedom of expression, association, and peaceful assembly, alongside protections for human rights defenders.

Citizen Participation Infrastructure: Concrete mechanisms and processes that facilitate people’s involvement in various aspects of public life, such as procedures that allow citizens to engage in policymaking.

Civil Society Strengthening Infrastructure: Mechanisms to support civil society organizations through public investment (e.g., social innovation funds) or private capital (e.g., innovative financing solutions).

Additionally, the initiative places a strong emphasis on youth inclusion in public life—particularly through the lens of the Youth, Peace, and Security Agenda—ensuring that at least one outcome per country specifically advances young people’s leadership and participation.

The workshop will focus on the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), covering its principles, limitations, and legislative models in a specific country context.

Key Responsibilities

We are looking for an online volunteer to support with the interpretation from English to French during an online workshop 13 November 2025. The volunteer will ensure that the workshop content is accurately and clearly conveyed to French-speaking participants.

The selected volunteer will receive guidance on the target audience and content of the workshop as well as other guidance as needed.

The workshop will be 1,5 hour from 9-10.30 AM EST.

The online volunteer will have the opportunity to build connections with the Governance Team at UNDP and learn more about the ways in which the team works to promote just, peaceful and inclusive societies.

Required Skills and Experience

Candidates should be fluent in English and French. Familiarity with legal terminology will be considered an advantage. Previous translation experience is considered an asset.
