WE ARE

Directorate A for International and Horizontal Affairs has around 100 staff distributed over four units. Directorate A ensures the overall coordination and coherence of home affairs policies as well as of relations with other Commission services and other institutions. Directorate A is responsible for the timely, accurate and credible communication inside DG HOME, towards external stakeholders and the public. It develops, implements and represents DG HOME’S external policies on migration and security, monitors the implementation of EU law and provides assistance to the rest of the DG on legal issues.

The position of Policy Assistant is in a highly visible area and in a stimulating and fast-moving work environment. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic and motivated team with a strong emphasis on collaboration. He/she will provide analysis and horizontal coordination in support of the effective and efficient management of the Directorate’s activities and resources. He/she will ensure assistance in dealing with procedures, tight deadlines and tools. He/she will contribute to the development and implementation of the coordination mechanisms within the DG, with a view to making internal polices and processes more efficient, simplified and streamlined.

WE LOOK FOR

We look for an experienced, dynamic, reliable, well-organised assistant with a good team spirit and excellent planning and coordination skills. He/she should be proactive, flexible and able to organise the work independently with a strong sense of responsibility. He/she should be able to adjust to multiple tasks under tight deadlines that often need to be delivered outside core working hours. A positive attitude, excellent communication, interpersonal skills and good judgment are also essential. Excellent knowledge of HOME policies and internal procedures is required. The candidate should have at least 5 years of experience in HOME policies. An excellent knowledge of English is essential, and a good understanding of German is an asset. Experience in document management would be an advantage. The candidate/job holder must either be a holder of a valid security clearance up to the level of “SECRET UE/EU SECRET” or be willing to undergo the national security vetting procedure (to be allowed to perform their job).
