The United Nations office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) experience shows that capacity building is a key factor in enhancing Member States’ ability to tackle drugs, crime and terrorism in all their aspects. The knowledge gap between countries is often wide and growing due to the unbalanced economic and social growth as well as the lack of international cooperation and coordination. This situation is not only between countries but within them, including some of the most prosperous. An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in education, social sciences, political studies, international relations, communication or related fields is required. A first level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of 2 year of professional/study experience in the field of Political Science, International Relations, social science, or any related areas, is required. Excellent analytical, planning, and organizational skills are required. Knowledge and experience of the UN System, and preferably of UNODC structure and programmes, is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English (written and oral), is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
