Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

Main purpose of job:

The successful candidate will provide quality support in the running of HM Ambassador’s Residence.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the Residence is kept clean at all times, and all furniture and other items are polished and maintained in the proper manner.
  • To look after the Residence”s public areas including 3 bedrooms, Dining room, Entrance Hall, Durbar room.
  • Ensure all silverware, cutlery, glassware, and China are well looked after and accounted for.
  • Reporting any breakages and discrepancies to Residence Manager.
  • Ensure that all clothing and linens including bed sheets, tablecloths etc are laundered and properly ironed and maintained. Including clothing for the Ambassador and family, and for any guests if asked.
  • Ensure that linen and towels are ready for guest bedrooms and bathrooms as required and ensure that table linen is ready for Residence functions.
  • To prepare equipment, furniture, refreshments and rooms as required for events.
  • Clearing, washing up and assisting with breakdown after each function.
  • Comply with all health and safety policies in accordance with Residence standards.

Other Duties

  • Answer incoming telephone calls to the Residence in a professional manner.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Residence Manager, Chief of Staff or the Ambassador.
  • Doing other tasks assigned by the residence manager.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

  • Minimum 5 years work experience in similar positions
  • Knowledge of British health & hygiene standards
  • Be able to work as part of a small team with minimal supervision
  • Ability to converse with staff and guests in both English and Amharic.
