JOB DESCRIPTION

Organization Mission

The Progressio Ecuador Foundation (FPE) is a non-profit organization, recognized on February 4, 2021 by the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion of Ecuador (MIES), which was founded with the objective of building strategic alliances between Ecuador and the world that promote Sustainable Development and a Culture of Peace.

We build sustainable models and advise on projects that promote peace, social inclusion, and environmental and economic development. We work with an intersectional, intercultural, and intergenerational approach to contribute to building an inclusive and sustainable society.

The Progressio Ecuador Foundation (FPE) has a presence in all four regions of the country and has implemented projects in partnership with universities, municipalities, decentralized autonomous governments, the Ecuadorian Navy’s Directorate General of Maritime Interests, the Global Initiative against International Organized Crime, and the Rotary Club. It has also participated in initiatives with more than a dozen private companies. The FPE maintains a collaboration agreement with the International Organization for Migration, receives support from the United Nations Volunteers system, and the German development agency GIZ, among others. Internationally, the FPE has coordinators in Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, and Argentina.

The Ecuadorian Foundation for Peace (FPE), through its World Peace Routes initiative, is a leader in promoting slow tourism in Ecuador and facilitated the opening of the SKAL Quito-Galapagos Club, the world’s leading tourism industry group (https://skal.org/es https://worldpeaceroutes.org). As part of its business development process, the FPE is a strategic partner of the Pichincha Chamber of Small and Medium Industry (CSM) through an agreement to promote corporate social responsibility, sustainability, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across the Chamber’s eight sectors. Fostering collaborative ecosystems with the private sector is a key strategy for promoting corporate social responsibility within the framework of SDG 17.

Context

In 2020, Mariano Cruz Ordóñez, from Riobamba, completed the 29-day “Along the Train Route” trek, covering 701 kilometers through Ecuador, from Durán to Carchi. In 2021, he undertook the “Path of Magic and Sand” trek, traversing four Ecuadorian provinces: Esmeraldas, Manabí, Santa Elena, and Guayas. The APIE Ecuador Group requested support from the Progressio Ecuador Foundation to design a new project called “The Qhapaq Ñan Route: Along the Paths of Those Who Dreamed.” This project aims to explore the Qhapaq Ñan, or Andean Road System, built over several centuries. This monumental network crosses six South American countries and has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014. The project will cover 1,300 kilometers and nine provinces in the Ecuadorian highlands, beginning at the border with Peru and ending at the border with Colombia.

Key Responsibilities

Based on the ideas of its creator and the contributions of a multidisciplinary team from the Progressio Ecuador Foundation, and using information from secondary sources, web pages and other online resources, the 6 Online Volunteers will support one of the following specific tasks:

1. One online volunteer will conduct an analysis and conceptualization of the initiative based on documents and information available within the organization.
2. Two online volunteers will assist with stakeholder mapping, using information available on websites and social media related to the provinces of Azuay, Loja, Chimborazo, Tungurahua, Cotopaxi, Pichincha, Imbabura, and Carchi.
