WE ARE
Unit SG.DSG3.H.2 “Council & EUCO, COREPER I + II, Brussels” is the unit responsible for the co-
ordination of the Commission participation to Coreper, Council and European Council meetings. In
particular, the unit is responsible for:
1) ensuring that the Commission presents and defends its initiatives in COREPER I and II in line
with the College priorities and reporting on the outcome of meetings;
2) providing timely information and political intelligence on the activities of the Council and its
preparatory bodies to enable the Commission to take informed positions during the inter-
institutional decision-making process;
3) providing advice to policy units and DGs on procedural matters and on negotiation strategies
concerning relations with the Council;
4) as necessary, prepare and follow up discussions on inter-institutional files in the GRI;
5) liaising with the upcoming Presidencies of the Council of the Union and with the Secretariat-
General of the Council;
6) preparing the participation of the President of the Commission to European Council meetings
and ensure follow-up.
The unit works in close contact with the Cabinet of the President, SG senior management and in
particular provides direct assistance to the Commission representatives in Coreper I and II and to
the Cabinet of Commissioner Šefčovič, in the preparation of the General Affairs Council. It ensures
liaising with the Council General Secretariat and the Permanent Representations of the Member
States.
WE PROPOSE
Unit SG.DSG3.H.2 “Council & EUCO, COREPER I + II, Brussels” is seeking to hire an administrative
agent in a friendly, dynamic team to support the unit in achieving its mission. Tasks include the
following:
•
administrative secretarial support of the Unit;
preparing briefing files for Coreper, Council and European Council meetings, organising the
contributions from DGs, ensuring the right format and timely delivery to Cabinets and SG
hierarchy;
preparing meeting reports to be circulated among all DGs and SG hierarchy (templates,
gathering of contributions from DGs, checking of typos and editing);
ensuring the electronic filing of notes, reports from meetings, statements and other documents
related to Council and Commission activity.
WE LOOK FOR
We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague with a strong sense of responsibility and initiative and
good organisational (priority setting) skills. The ideal candidate should be a pro-active team player
and problem-solver with an eye for detail.
Previous experience as a secretary, knowledge of the Commission and Council Procedures and the
standard Commission IT tools, e.g. Microsoft tools, Ares, Decide (eGreffe), Sysper, MIPS, BriefingNet,
Basis, ePoetry, etc. would be an advantage.
The main working languages are English and French.
Candidates should be capable of working independently, delivering under sometimes tight time
constraints. Discretion, reliability and sense of service are required. The candidate should be
prepared to occasionally show flexibility in working hours.
