Action Lab for Development is dedicated to advancing education, food security, and advocacy to empower entrepreneurs, newcomers and promote creative economies in Canada. We envision a future where local innovators and newcomers have the resources to thrive through growth and development.
Our mission includes five key objectives:

Action Lab For Development was registered as an Extra-Provincial Corporation in Alberta-Canada in 2024, granted special consultative status by the United Nations Economic and Social Council in 2020, reflecting our commitment to the UN”s Sustainable Development Goals. Our primary focus areas include:

• These initiatives aim to positively impact local innovators, including newcomers in Canada who may be facing challenges related to integration into a new environment and starting life. Our research shows that access to education, particularly in social entrepreneurship, is a powerful tool for these individuals. It enables them to turn their experiences into practical solutions that benefit their communities.

Context

Born from a journey of trauma, healing, and spiritual awakening, MoralityCode Mobile App is a pioneering ethical decision-making tool designed to fill the emotional and moral gaps in modern AI systems.
Already functional and available for download, the app blends technology, spirituality, and moral philosophy to guide users through complex ethical choices.
In this Version 2 enhancement phase, the focus is to:
Refine AI reasoning and emotional intelligence.
Integrate African ancestral wisdom (Ndapngong) for cultural depth.
Apply theological and philosophical frameworks.
Enhance UI/UX design and Android performance.
Add a health and medical ethical model to expand real-life impact.
This phase centers on enhancement, optimization, and expansion to make MoralityCode more intuitive, inclusive, and transformative.

Key Responsibilities

Ethical programming support – MoralityCode Mobile App Enhancement (Phase 2)
Action Lab for Development is seeking Three (3) online volunteers to contribute to the enhancement of the MoralityCode Mobile App (Version 2) an innovative ethical decision-making tool that integrates moral philosophy, emotional intelligence, and a health and medical model.
The app is already functional and available for download. This second phase focuses on enhancing user experience, improving interface responsiveness, refining the AI/ML reasoning engine, and deepening philosophical content. Each volunteer will handle a distinct enhancement area following our one-task-per-volunteer principle to ensure clarity, accountability, and measurable impact.Volunteer Support1. App Development Support (2 positions)
Objective: Enhance the functionality, interactivity, and performance of the existing MoralityCode Mobile App.
Tasks:
• Analyze the existing Python/Kivy codebase to identify and implement optimization opportunities.
• Enhance interface responsiveness, improve navigation flow, and ensure compatibility across multiple devices.
• Integrate the latest Buildozer updates to boost Android app performance and stability.
• Resolve bugs, reduce latency, and fix design inconsistencies based on user feedback.
• Develop and implement new features aimed at increasing usability and user satisfaction.
• Collaborate closely with AI/ML and ethics teams to maintain feature alignment and coherence.
• Support current team build or design a social media section within the MoralityCode app
• Support develop a support system to boost social engagement, including comment management and community building
2. Philosophical, Theological, or Ethical support (1 position)
Objective: Enrich the app’s moral reasoning database and ensure intercultural, theological, and ethical inclusivity.
Tasks:
• Curate moral dilemmas and decision-making frameworks grounded in philosophy, ethics, and theology. Help embed deeper moral narratives into the AI system and ensure cultural and spiritual appropriateness.
• Review and refine the moral and ethical case studies currently embedded in the app.
• Provide philosophical and theological commentary to strengthen moral diversity.
• Develop new ethical content and moral scenarios relevant to users worldwide.
• Collaborate with the AI team to align reasoning outputs with authentic ethical logic.
• Ensure all enhancements reflect moral clarity, balance, and global cultural understanding.Key Outcomes
• A technically enhanced, user-friendly, and emotionally intelligent MoralityCode Mobile App.
• Optimized performance, UI responsiveness, and feature reliability.
• Strengthened AI reasoning integrating both moral and medical perspectives.
• Richer philosophical and intercultural moral content for broader ethical engagement.
• Contribution to the “Ndapngong” Knowledge Engine and the expansion of Action Lab Innovation Hubs in Alberta, Canada.Online Volunteers will work online and focus exclusively on enhancement and optimization tasks.
All external outreach, release management, and organizational coordination will be handled by the Action Lab for Development internal team.
Each online volunteer must have a laptop and a stable internet connection.

Required Skills and Experience

Holder of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Area(s) of Specialisation: App Development, Software Engineering, Mobile UI/UX.
• Proficiency in Python (Intermediate to Advanced)
• Experience with VS Code and Jupyter Notebook
• Proven skills in app development and deployment
• Hands-on experience with Kivy and Buildozer
• Understanding of Google Play Store submission process
• Interest in human-centered, ethical, or spiritually-informed technology
• Self-driven, collaborative, and detail-oriented
• Respect for Indigenous and Canadian or African cultural traditions
• Relevant technical, research, or cultural knowledge for your role
