WE ARE

The Legal Service provides comprehensive in-house legal assistance to the Commission and all its
departments and reviews acts and documents having legal implications. Its resources have to be
deployed to cover all Commission activities and areas of responsibility. In addition, the Legal
Service represents the Commission before the courts in all cases brought before the Union or
national courts.

The ‘Institutions’ Team deals with issues concerning the organisation and functioning of the EU
institutions and their interactions and keeps the contacts with the Court of Justice. It also deals
with the interpretation of the Charter of Fundamental Rights and the relations with the European
Convention of Human Rights, the horizontal questions concerning the values of the EU, the rules
concerning the protection of personal data (GDPR) and the implementation of the Regulation on
access to documents.

The Legal Service is located in the Commission headquarters in the BERLAYMONT building.

WE PROPOSE

We propose the position of administrative agent to the lawyers of the INST Team. In this position,
you will assist several lawyers in their different tasks not only at administrative level, but also
related to legal and documentary support to the lawyers.

You are likely to be part of the ‘knowledge management’ sub-group of the team as well. This job is
key to ensuring a good information flow and customer service as well as a smooth running of the
team. It offers the possibility to acquire knowledge in the legal field and a good overview of the
way in which the Commission fulfils its missions in the field of functioning of the EU institutions.

This position generally allows for regular working hours and a good work life balance.

 

WE LOOK FOR

We are looking for:

• An open-minded, motivated and well-organized person who enjoys teamwork and has a

strong sense of responsibility and confidentiality.

• A conscientious, reliable and resilient person with good knowledge of the requested

secretarial and organizational techniques.

The ideal candidate should have:

• Excellent ability to organise themselves, proactive and problem-solving attitude and team’s

goals oriented.

• Willingness to take on different tasks, to adapt to the workload, to be a backup of other

assistants, flexible and good team-player.

• Very good oral and written communication and drafting skills in English. Good knowledge of

French and knowledge of any other EU language would be additional assets.

• Very good knowledge of texts and data processing IT programs (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel,
Powerpoint). Good knowledge of IT applications used in the Commission (Ares, Decide (CIS-
NET), MIPS and Poetry) and experience with the use of databases would be additional
assets.
