Your Opportunity

Based in Meekatharra, this is an on-site position providing vital, frontline support to individuals and families experiencing family and domestic violence. Working in partnership with the Murchison Family Violence Coordinated Response Service, WA Police, the Department of Communities, and other local agencies, the Meekatharra Family and Domestic Violence Service Crisis Support Worker plays a key role in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of women and children at high risk.

Nyarlu Duwa (Woman House in Wadjari) is a recognised safe space for women and children and in this role, you will provide crisis accommodation for up to 72 hours, helping clients find safety, rest, and support in times of distress. The role involves risk assessment, intake, safety planning, referrals, advocacy, informal counselling, and detailed case documentation.

With strong ties to the local community, you will deliver holistic, culturally safe, and trauma-informed support that recognises the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual wellbeing of Aboriginal families. Lived and local experience, community knowledge, and genuine empathy will help you make a real and lasting difference.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to referrals from WA Police, medical services, and other agencies to provide crisis support and short-term accommodation following incidents of violence.
  • Conduct risk assessments, safety planning, intake, referrals, and ongoing support to enhance safety and stability for families.
  • Provide on-call and call-out support to individuals and families in times of crisis, including outreach across Meekatharra and surrounding areas.
  • Advocate and liaise with external agencies such as WA Police, courts, and government departments on behalf of clients.
  • Deliver holistic, person-centred, and culturally safe case management that supports the physical, emotional, and cultural wellbeing of Aboriginal people.
  • Maintain accurate records, case notes, and administrative documentation in accordance with Mission Australia’s standards and requirements.
  • Participate in interagency meetings, community education, and collaborative forums to strengthen partnerships and promote best practice in family violence response.

Requirements for Success

  • Associate Diploma with relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of qualifications and experience in community services, family violence, or related fields.
  • Minimum 12 months’ experience supporting individuals and families affected by family and domestic violence.
  • Strong understanding of Aboriginal cultural systems, community protocols, and culturally safe practice.
  • Proven skills in risk assessment, safety planning, case management, counselling, advocacy, and referral processes.
  • Ability to build trust and meaningful relationships within the community and with partner agencies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, administrative, and computer skills.
  • Lived experience and/or local knowledge of community and cultural dynamics will be highly regarded.
  • First Aid certificate is desired but not required.
  • Full driver licence with no restrictions.

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
