About the opportunity
StandBy is Australia’s leading suicide postvention program, dedicated to supporting people and communities impacted by suicide. Delivered locally through Wellways, StandBy works alongside individuals, families and communities to provide timely, person-centred support and connection.
As a StandBy Support Worker, you’ll play an important role in providing compassionate, practical support to people who have been impacted or bereaved by suicide across the Murray region. You’ll respond to support requests, offer information and connection to services, and help people navigate their grief in a way that feels safe and respectful.
This position works collaboratively with the StandBy Coordinator to deliver individual and group support, contribute to community development activities, and participate in workshops and events that strengthen local awareness and capacity. The role includes some after-hours and weekend work and may involve travel, including overnight stays, to ensure support reaches those who need it most.
We are currently looking for new team members to join our team to support participants in the Albury, Benalla, Mildura, Shepparton or Wangaratta.

You bring compassion, professionalism and emotional insight to your work, and you’re comfortable supporting people during times of distress and uncertainty.
You’re skilled at creating safe spaces and communicating with warmth, empathy and respect. You value teamwork, reflection and continuous learning, and you’re motivated by the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives following suicide bereavement.
