Position Overview
The Literacy Facilitator (LF) plays a key role in supporting Room to Read’s Literacy Program in government primary schools. The LF provides on-site coaching and mentoring to teachers and head teachers to strengthen early grade reading instruction, build children’s literacy skills, and foster a habit of reading. The role also supports teacher training, community engagement, and capacity building of government officials. Serving as the primary point of contact for assigned schools, the LF ensures effective program implementation, documentation, and reporting.
Responsibilities
Program Implementation & School Support
- Support the rollout of the Literacy Program in assigned schools, ensuring adherence to design and responsiveness to challenges.
- Provide day-to-day coaching to Grade 1 and 2 teachers on effective literacy instruction and use of student assessments.
- Support the setup and ongoing use of school libraries, including orientation for teachers and students.
- Collaborate with schools to make minor improvements to library spaces (e.g., painting, organization).
- Facilitate delivery and distribution of library books, instructional materials, and program resources.
Capacity Building & Training
- Assist the Literacy Program Officer in conducting teacher and government official trainings, serving as co-facilitator when required.
- Participate in professional development to strengthen coaching skills and deepen knowledge of the Literacy Program.
- Provide ongoing feedback to teachers based on classroom observations and informal student assessments.
Community & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with school leaders, government counterparts, and communities to create a supportive literacy environment.
- Facilitate literacy events, parent meetings, and community activities to build awareness and engagement.
- Support head teachers and communities in developing sustainability plans for literacy practices beyond Room to Read’s support.
- Represent Room to Read in government and school-level meetings as needed.
Monitoring, Documentation & Reporting
- Conduct daily school visits (except when in training, meetings, or on leave).
- Collect and analyze school- and library-level data, including student assessments and program monitoring indicators.
- Document best practices, lessons learned, and feedback for continuous program improvement.
- Prepare timely reports, school visit notes, and updates as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, or related field.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience in education or development projects.
- Demonstrated experience in teacher coaching, training, or mentoring.
- Experience facilitating school- or community-level events and meetings.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools, assessments, and using data to improve instruction.
- Strong communication skills in Bangla and English (written and verbal).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic digital tools.

- Willingness to travel frequently within the assigned district.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in rural communities and/or government schools.
- Prior success collaborating with teachers, school administrators, and government officials.
- Experience with early grade reading, school libraries, or literacy program implementation.
- Background in nonprofit or development organizations with a focus on education.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
