Position Overview

The Officer -IDTS is a member of the Instructional Design and Teacher Support Unit (“IDTS”), based within the Country Office Literacy Portfolio. This unit is responsible for managing Room to Read’s program design and training curriculum related to Pre-primary to Grade 3 literacy instruction and primary grade library management and reading activities. This position will also collaborate with the technical teams in project areas. This position will directly be reported to Manager, Training and Capacity Building.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Develop a thorough understanding of RtR’s Literacy program design.
  • S/he has good awareness of literacy programs, their design and strategies operating in different locations and projects.
  • Develop a strong understanding of Govt’s education policies NEP 2010, ECCD Policy, PEDP4 and National Curriculum Framework 2021 etc.
  • Develop or update an existing scope and sequence of skills for Pre-primary to Grade 3 aligned with national curricula and RtR’s instructional approach
  • Develop and/or update existing instructional materials for Pre-primary to Grade 3, including workbook, teacher guide and assessment tools.
  • As needed, develop and/or contextualize training modules provided by GO for Pre-primary to Grade 3 Teachers’ Training
  • As needed, adapt existing session plans for library management and reading activities to support sequence of the Library Teachers’ Training
  • Provide technical support and assistance to the Field team in system strengthening, field level capacity building staff with respect to all aspects of the Literacy program/s.
  • Contribute to the preparation of conceptual notes, operation manuals/guidance and related tool kits of assigned project.
  • Develop assessment tools for tracking students’ performance, provide orientation on them to the users and support in analyzing the results
  • Develop and design the supplementary materials needed for Instruction and Library components and coordinate the materials printing and publication related tasks to assigned project.
  • Work closely with Quality Reading Materials Unit to ensure timely development and delivery of Grade 3 instructional materials.
  • Support in communication and coordination with relevant government offices for any technical clarification related to Literacy program materials and others working groups
  • Carry out necessary revisions in program design and activities based on feedback from the field and results emanating from reading assessments and program monitoring indicators.
  • Develop training plans, growth frameworks, training content, trainer manuals and participant handbooks for all the various types of trainings planned for the teachers and head teachers.
  • Develop/Refine field team capacity building on policy level, pedagogical level and teacher training facilitation skill with the Facilitator Guides.
  • Undertake any other work assigned from time to time to meet the technical needs of the organization.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A master’s degree in Education or a related field of study, or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience
  • Experience with reading/literacy or learning improvement programs
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of teaching methodologies, curriculum and teacher training at primary stage
  • Experience in developing educational learning materials for students or teachers at the primary stage
  • Experience in developing and conducting training programs for teachers
  • Experience in developing and implementing programmatic improvements
  • Prior success in working closely and building relationships with diverse groups of people and organizations
  • Ability and desire to travel frequently to visit school sites
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Bangla and English

Skills & Competencies Required

  • Strong planning and program development skills
  • Understanding monitoring, evaluation, and process documentation
  • Strong motivation in working or volunteering in a non-profit organization that is focused on maintaining high quality work and low overhead
  • Prior track record of achieving results in a fast-paced, growth-oriented global or regional organization
  • Skills of typing in Bangla
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously

Preferred

  • Experience in teaching at the primary stage
  • Experience in developing and conducting on-site school support and coaching initiatives for teachers
  • Development and use of observation and other monitoring tools and practices to assess the progress of primary school interventions
