Rationale
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people. Every year, millions of men, women and children are forced to flee their homes to escape conflict and persecution.
DEPS global strategy is to position itself as an entity that provides excellence delivery of its service in Emergency Preparedness and Response, Field Security and Supply Management and supports efficient and sustainable protection of refugees and other persons of concern.
The Emergency Policy and Capacity Development Section organizes different training courses in consultation with Regional Bureaux, the Global Data Service and the eCentre. The goal is to prepare UNHCR staff, affiliate workforce personnel and partner staff of governments and NGOs, so that they have adequate capabilities to respond effectively to an emergency deployment.
Duties and Responsibilities
DEPS seeks to hire an intern to assist in emergency policy and capacity development activities including development of learning initiatives and evaluation of existing learning programmes.
Responsibilities:
• Contribute to the development of written materials, guides, reports, presentations, job aids and other materials as needed for capacity development purposes.
• Support the coordination of learning activities including technical support for webinars and administrative support for in-person workshops.
• Provide support for the assessment and analysis of learning needs, learning methodologies, development, delivery, and evaluation of learning activities as appropriate.
• Contribute to the maintenance and replenishment of the section”s training supply inventory.
• Provide general administrative support for the section, including organization of meetings, meeting minutes, drafting correspondence, etc.
• Organize and design a system to archive the section”s digital material.
• Ad hoc tasks as per the section”s needs and the intern”s interests.
Essential Minimum Qualifications and Professional Experience Required
• Be a recent graduate or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field Organizational Development Management, International Development, Political Economy (or equivalent experience).
• An outgoing personality and a team player with service-oriented attitudes.
• Proven ability to deal with multiple tasks in a courteous and service-oriented manner, in demanding working conditions that often have short deadlines.
• Strive to live up to high ethical and professional standards.
• Excellent knowledge of English (written, oral and comprehension).
• Proficient with Microsoft Office tools.
Additional Desired Skills and Experience
• Knowledge of UNHCR”s other working languages (French, Spanish).
• Knowledge of e-learning software (Articulate, Adobe, Vyond).
