Peer Support Apprentice

Location: South London
Working Hours: 37
Contract Type: Apprentice
Salary: £10 per hour

We have an exciting opportunity for five individuals who are passionate about helping others to join our team as a Peer Support Apprentice in the South London area. This role is ideal for someone looking to use their lived experience to support vulnerable individuals affected by mental health challenges, substance misuse, or learning disabilities, while working toward a recognised Health & Social Care qualification to enhance future career prospects.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Peer Support Apprentice, you’ll play a vital role in supporting people across a range of community and justice settings. Key responsibilities include:

  • Meeting individuals on a one-to-one or multi-agency basis to provide tailored care and support aligned with their care plan.
  • Contributing to client care planning and risk management alongside Criminal Justice colleagues.
  • Working directly with police, probation officers, and youth offending teams in custody, court, and community environments.
  • Supporting clients in community settings or in their homes, promoting engagement with appropriate services while following lone working guidance.
  • Acting as a point of contact for individuals seeking support.
  • Working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team and championing the value of lived experience.
  • Building positive, supportive relationships with clients to help them access services that improve their physical and mental wellbeing.
  • Providing emotional support, engagement, and guidance to service users and their families/carers on relevant community support services.
  • Recording service information accurately and within agreed timescales.
  • Attending an education setting one day per week to work towards a recognised qualification.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is compassionate, motivated, and eager to develop. You should have:

  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent).
    • If not, you must be willing to work towards passing Functional Skills in both alongside the apprenticeship.
  • A willingness to complete a minimum Level 2 qualification in Health & Social Care.
  • Personal lived experience of mental health issues and/or the criminal justice system (preferred, as we value the unique insight this brings to the role).
  • Good IT skills, including confidence using Microsoft Office programmes.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (preferred but not essential).

Why Join Us?

  • A supportive, inclusive team that values your lived experience.
  • Opportunities to grow and progress within a rewarding sector.
  • The chance to make a real impact on the lives of vulnerable people across North and Central London.
