The Behavioral Support Specialist works in collaboration with caregivers, teachers, family services workers, and home visitors to address developmental concerns that arise in the children serviced by our program. Promotes and supports team approach in behavior support planning for children/families of children 0-5 enrolled in CII’s Early Head Start and Head Start programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Collaborates with Early Childhood Service staff in problem solving individual and classroom behavioral issues.
Uses independent judgment and discretion to gather information, assess needs and formulate appropriate interventions to be implemented with children referred.
Collects and analyzes behavioral data to guide decisions regarding individual student supports, classrooms systems.
Supports the identification, development and provisions of systemic and systematic interventions to address behaviors of students with disabilities that impede learning and support implementation of these interventions.
Provides technical assistance in services tracking of behavior support services so that services are accurately documented.
Provides technical assistance regarding the integration of positive behavior supports in all instructional initiatives.
Participates as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.
Provides consultation to center and or home-based staff on programmatic practices that affect and promote the social emotional development of children enrolled.
Meets regularly with the Early Childhood Services staff and the Site Supervisors to address programmatic concerns.
In collaboration with Behavior Specialist Supervisor and multidisciplinary team create a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) and is reviewed on a monthly basis to ensure implementation of suggested strategies.
Work one on one with a child at school.
Maintains absolute confidentiality regarding children and their families in compliance with HIPAA regulations and CII policies.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Maintains up-to-date records.
Provides training workshops on selected topics as needed.
Must be receptive and willing to work with students who exhibit mild to severe behaviors (i.e. aggression, elopement, etc.).
Other duties and special projects as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Experience in both general and special education settings
Knowledge of the Induvial with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), California.
BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) or enrollment in a program to prepare for certification.
Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) is required within 3 months of hire.
Prior experience working with children.
Bachelor”s degree in in psychology, child development, education, special education, social work, counseling or a related field from a four-year university required.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Possesses a valid driver”s license and state-required auto insurance or reliable transportation, depending on business needs.
Required to travel extensively (> 50% of the time).
This position may require some travel.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Spanish / English bilingual preferred.
Ability to handle confidential information.
Experience with assessment of young children’s social and emotional functioning.
Experience with and/or knowledge of group dynamics and intervention with children.
Familiarity with the Head Start performance standards and CDE regulations.
Maintains patient privacy, including protecting the confidentiality, safeguarding the integrity and availability, and limiting the use and disclosure of patient Protected Health Information (PHI) to authorized individuals and entities.
Participates in, conducts, and sustains performance quality improvement activities according to designated role and responsibilities.
Sensitivity to service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.

COMPENSATION:
$29.96 USD – $35.95 USD
In accordance with California law, the expected pay range for this position is included in this posting. The actual compensation will be determined based on factors permitted by law. New hires will be offered a salary at the starting point of the range to maintain internal inequity and allow opportunity for future salary growth. CII salaries are determined based on comprehensive internal and external market analysis, as well as the skills, education, and experience relevant to each position.
