Organization Mission

The World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace, stability and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters and the impact of climate change. Powered by the passion, dedication and professionalism of its 20,000 staff worldwide, the World Food Programme (WFP) works in over 80 countries to bring life-saving food to people displaced by conflict and made destitute by disasters, and help individuals and communities find life-changing solutions to the multiple challenges they face in building better futures.

WFP works to enhance nutrition in women and children, support smallholder farmers in improving productivity and reducing losses, help countries and communities prepare for and cope with climate-related shocks, and boost human capital through school feeding programmes. Context

The collection of data related to security incidents within UN operations has already been done by various teams, gathering timely and accurate information on events that may impact the safety of staff, assets, and beneficiaries. Given the availability of security-related data, there is an opportunity for a visualization volunteer to support the security team. By transforming raw data into accessible visual materials – such as infographics – the volunteer will experience communicating trends and patterns effectively. These visual aids are used in enabling rapid understanding and response among WFP teams.

Key Responsibilities

The Volunteer would assist the team by creating visual documents – such as charts and infographics that simplify data visualisation. While helping the team, this will help the volunteer experience in effective humanitarian operations by enhancing the flow of security information.

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Security Officer, WFP Ethiopia, the online volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

•Assist the security team by preparing visualisation material (e.g., charts, infographics or other) and support maintenance and updating of existing visual materials as new information becomes available.
