Internship Assignment

The Intern will provide portfolio and knowledge management support to the Department of Asia Pacific. The Department of Asia Pacific within the Green Climate Fund leads the GCF’s engagement with countries and accredited entities and ensures strategic alignment of GCF’s investments with national investment policies. The Department provides strategic, operational, and technical support to partner countries and entities in the region to advance high-impact programming and manage an active portfolio.

Role Summary

S/he will have the opportunity to learn and expand her/his experiences by supporting the Department’s portfolio and knowledge management processes. The intern may also assist the team in communicating project and portfolio outcomes and support the team to establish structures and guidance for internal portfolio managements teams and implementing partners.

Under the overall guidance of the designated primary and alternate supervisors within the ​Department of Asia Pacific​, the Intern is expected to support the following areas:

Project and Portfolio Support

  • Support the preparation of briefing notes, presentations, and mission materials.
  • Contribute to tracking key project milestones and collecting information from Accredited Entities (AEs) and National Designated Authorities (NDAs).
  • Provide support to the Department in managing Readiness Grants and Funding Proposals, including assisting in change, and/or adaptive management requests including contract amendments and restructurings, no cost extensions, initial review of project reports and disbursements/reflows.
  • Provide analytical support to the Department’s sub-regional teams in the assessment of GCF Project Activities (including both Funding Proposals and Readiness Grants)
  • Track the status of Country Proposal Development – both across the global portfolio and assisting the sub-regions, track key milestones in countries and entities.

Knowledge Management

  • Coordinate with AEs, NDAs, delivery partners, and other stakeholders to gather inputs for regional knowledge and communication products.
  • Assists in administrative tasks (i.e. organizing meetings, preparing minutes and briefs for internal and external meetings) and the preparation of PowerPoint presentations, including presentations for Events/ Meetings and other programming needs, as appropriate.
  • Support development of regional brochures, impact summaries, and content for the GCF website and events.

Expected deliverables by the end of the internship programme, will include, inter alia:

  • Well-prepared briefing materials and analytical inputs for programming and portfolio management.
  • Knowledge and documentation materials for at least one regional event or engagement.
  • Develop at least one knowledge management product, highlighting some of the lessons learned and best practices, from the preparation of Country Programmes or Readiness needs.

Requirements and qualifications

  • Enrolled in Master’s program in environment, public policy, development studies, ​climate change, sustainability​ or related fields;
  • Strong analytical, writing and editing skills with an attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated interest in climate change, sustainable development or international corporations.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and manage multiple tasks under tight timelines.
  • Good understanding and experience in operations of international organization is an added advantage;
  • Proficiency in using standard software programs: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access;
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is essential; knowledge of another Asia Pacific or United Nations language is an advantage.
