The goal of the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS) is to enable the activities of UNSMS organisations, including UNDP, within acceptable levels of security risk.
The UNDP Security Office (SO) is a client-oriented Centre of Excellence for Security Risk Management, focusing on high-quality, timely and effective support and advisory services, helping clients to assure an environment for safe programme delivery. The Security Office is responsible for providing effective Security Risk Management advice and support at all levels (HQ, Regional, Country Office and Project), within the overall UN Security Management System, thereby enabling security of UNDP operations, programmes, and personnel globally.
The UN Security Risk Management (SRM) process is a United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS) tool to identify, analyse and manage safety and security risks to United Nations personnel, assets and operations.
The goal of the assignment is to assist the ongoing security risk management process aimed at enabling the delivery of UNDP programmes in the region. This will be done by coordinating a team for producing comprehensive daily reports of geopolitical, security and safety developments from open-media sources. There is no set start date for this online assignment, but once selected, the candidate is expected to start as soon as possible.
The selected online volunteers will have a unique opportunity to further enhance professional skills in an international development context, expand cross-cultural communication abilities, and contribute to impactful work that enables UNDP programme delivery.
The UNDP Security Office in Panama is seeking TWO Online Volunteers to support the monitoring of open-media sources in the Latin America and The Caribbean region.
The volunteers will coordinate, review and proof-read other Online Volunteers” work producing daily open-media reports covering geopolitical, security, and safety-related news in English.
Under the immediate supervision of the UNDP Security Office in Panama, the Online Volunteers will perform:
Coordination and delivery of Daily Media Monitoring:
Review and proofread the report for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and overall language quality.
Ensure consistency in terminology, style, and formatting across the report.
Check for clarity, coherence, and logical flow of content, making suggestions for improvement where necessary.
Coordinate regularly with each other to align on editing standards and resolve any discrepancies.
Liaise with the Security Office team and Online Volunteers to clarify content, incorporate feedback, and address any questions.
Ensure that reports cover significant geopolitical events, security incidents, and safety-related news relevant to the region.
Ensure that the final versions are ready for dissemination, adhering to UNDP guidelines (to be provided).
Submit reviewed daily reports by 1 PM GMT-5 from Monday to Friday.
Weekly Feedback Sessions:
Participate in a weekly online meeting with the supervisor to discuss progress, receive feedback, and address any relevant matters.
Coordinate the exact time and date of meetings based on mutual availability.
Research and Source Utilization:
Utilize daily reports produced by an Online Volunteer team based on open-media sources
Ensure that information is accurate, reliable, and sourced from credible outlets.
Research and analytical skills.
Ability to present information clearly and logically.
Ability to synthesize information from various sources into concise reports.
Experience in editing and proofreading technical or academic publications.
Excellent command of written English, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Other Requirements:
Proven motivation and interest in the fields of geopolitics, international security and or international affairs.
Access to reliable internet connectivity.
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
