Job Summary:
The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a qualified candidate to serve as a Country Program Coordinator II within the Development Strategies and Governance Unit (DSG). This is a full time, two-year, renewable appointments based in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (PNG). IFPRI is delivering the Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Policy Support Program (PNG-AFNP, 2024-2028), supported by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) through the Australian High Commission (AHC) in Port Moresby, and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR). The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for coordinating the administrative and operational aspects of the PNG-AFNP. Interested applicants must have work authorization to work in Papua New Guinea.
Essential Duties:
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
Office Management and Administration:70%
Assist the Country Program Leader with day-to-day management of local research and administrative staff, including recruitment, work plan development, supervision, and performance review.
Work closely with administrative staff and vendors to ensure effective administrative services, including office procurement, office maintenance, technical/IT services, vehicle fleet management, and management of support staff and vendors.
Drafting and monitoring consultant collaborative agreements, serving as liaison between program collaborators and finance/administrative issues, reviewing monthly financial reports, and provide financial analysis reports on projects.
Coordinate seminars and workshops and supervise logistical arrangements on seminars/workshops.
Provide liaison with IFPRI Finance and Administration Department on Finance, Security, HR, and admin-related issues and needs.
Assist the Country Program Leader to update annual work program and reporting and update project proposals.
Research: 10%
Assist the Country Program Leader to coordinate research with IFPRI staff and collaborators (both local and Washington-based).
Provide guidance on administrative issues to facilitate research activities for locally recruited research support staff and collaborators.
Participate in field work activities, including selected empirical research and synthesis.
Outreach and Policy Communication: 20%
Tracks progress in the agricultural development sector and informs participants in ongoing policy discussions.
Assist the Country Program Leader to maintain active policy communication with stakeholders in PNG concerned with agricultural development.
Assist the Country Program Leader to hold regular workshops and seminars on research topics, including one major policy research seminar annually.
Support the publication of working papers, research notes, newsletters, or other outputs.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Public Policy, Development Studies or closely related field plus two years of relevant work experience or Master’s degree in the above fields.
Experience in coordinating research, capacity building, and communication efforts related to agricultural and food policy.
Demonstrated ability in communicating the results of agriculture and food policy research effectively to a diverse range of audiences.
Knowledge and experience working in PNG.
Ability to work across disciplines.
Ability to handle multiple tasks & prioritize tasks with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
Attention to detail and ability to work within a team in a multicultural environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office; word processing & spreadsheet programs required.
Excellent written and spoken English.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of IFPRI’s work in PNG.
Proficiency in Tok Pisin.
Proficiency in office management and project management software.
Certification in project management, financial management, or other related fields.
NGO experience in PNG
