JOB DESCRIPTION

The Organisation

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls. We believe in the power and potential of every child but know this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it is girls who are most affected.

Working together with children, young people, supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges girls and vulnerable children face. We support children’s rights from birth until they reach adulthood and we enable children to prepare for and respond to crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge.

For over 85 years, we have rallied other determined optimists to transform the lives of all children in more than 80 countries.

We won’t stop until we are all equal.

The Opportunity

The Global Media Mager will join a fast-paced, dynamic media team working hard to maximise Plan International’s presence across a range of global media – print, broadcast and digital – with an additional remit to support and guide media relations activity across the Plan International federation. The post holder will be expected to use strong news judgement skills to react quickly and strategically to the international news agenda, and proactively develop and secure coverage for stories that position Plan International as the go-to development and humanitarian organisation advancing children’s rights and equality for girls. The Global Media Manager creates compelling content and messaging for use by Plan International’s network of communicators, which will require being able to work collaboratively with colleagues across multiple offices, backgrounds and functions.

Note that this is a short term role envisaged to last for six to seven months to support the global media team as Plan International scales up its humanitarian responses in Gaza and Sudan and to cover a six-month period of extended leave. The Global Media Manager will take on a range of day to day and project-based tasks, as well as other reasonable duties consistent with the role profile.
