JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE:  Communications & Campaigns Manager

CONTRACT LENGTH: Fixed Term
CHILD SAFEGUARDING: 

Level 2: either the role holder will have access to personal data about children and/or young people as part of their work; or they will be working in a ‘regulated’ position (accountant, barrister, solicitor, legal executive); therefore, a police check will be required (at ‘standard’ level in the UK or equivalent in other countries).

This role plays a strategic role in positioning Save the Children Nepal as a thought leader and trusted voice for children’s rights. The role supports the Program Development, Quality, and Influence (PDQI) Director in driving organizational visibility through strategic communications, compelling human-interest stories, and localized voices, spotlighting the work done in partnership with children and communities.

 

As custodians for communications, branding, visibility, and campaigns, the position holder will ensure compliance with branding and visibility standards, oversee strategic alignment of campaigns with movement-wide advocacy and influence priorities, and design capacity strengthening initiatives for staff and partners. The role will build the ability of teams to develop and implement child-led, evidence-informed campaigns and influence-building actions.

 

Supports Save the Children’s dual mandate of development programmes as well as being the leader in emergency preparedness and response for children.

 

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

 

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Indirect / Technical reporting: Policy, Advocacy and Campaigns Coordinator (Bardibas) and Communications & Media Coordinator (Surkhet)

Works Closely With: Thematic Advisors, Project Managers, Head of Field Operations, Communications Focal Points, and coordinate with Asia Regional Business Partners to build alignment with Save the Children’s global communications and campaigns mandate

 

 

 

 

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: 

Communications, branding and visibility:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the Country Office’s communications, branding, and marketing strategy.
  • Provide strategic guidance and oversight on donor branding and visibility compliance, ensuring all relevant staff are trained and compliant.
  • Oversee the collection, writing, review, and dissemination of high-quality stories, case studies, and other materials tailored to diverse audiences and platforms.
  • Support communications focal points in field offices and maintain story trackers to maximize and strategically position Save the Children’s work.
  • Collaborate with program teams, MEAL, and communications teams to produce quarterly newsletters, annual report, one-pagers, and briefsfor fundraising, advocacy, and external engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Awards team to ensure timely submission of project-based case studies and stories in line with donor reporting timelines, while maintaining high standards of writing quality.
  • Work with thematic advisors and project managers to understand project impacts and emerging areas of work, using strategic communications to build thought leadership.
  • Support the PDQI Director in developing fundraising toolkits for donors and stakeholders.
  • Ensure Save the Children Nepal’s social media channels are aligned with the Country Strategic Plan (CSP) and promote coherent, child-centered storytelling.
  • Conduct training sessions on communications for development for staff and partners.
  • Guide field-based communications focal points to organize and facilitate Communities of Practice (CoP) on child-focused storytelling and communications.
  • Engage with and mobilize media to spotlight child rights issues through strategic outreach, op-eds, press releases, and targeted media engagement.
  • Oversee the Senior Communications Coordinator, conduct regular branding and visibility pulse checks, and provide reputation insights through media and social media monitoring.
  • In humanitarian contexts, guide the Senior Communications Coordinator in developing and implementing Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) activities.
  • Ensure consistent messaging, field test of information, education, and communications (IEC) materials, and branding on PSA, or any public facing communications and awareness materials, in close coordination with technical advisors, and relevant colleagues.

 

Campaigns: 

  • Lead conceptualization, design, and delivery of federal, provincial, and local level campaigns on child rights and related issues in consultation with Technical Advisors and field teams
  • Develop campaign strategies and context-specific plans in consultation with the PDQI Director, and relevant thematic advisors ensuring alignment with advocacy and influence goals.
  • Embed child rights and participation standards at every stage of campaign planning and implementation, and ensure representation and ethical/meaningful participation of underrepresented children, such as, LGBTQI+, children with disability, etc.
  • Develop tool kits on child-led and informed campaigning and co-create campaigns with children and youth, ensuring their voices and perspectives shape campaign objectives and outputs.
  • Establish feedback loops to ensure children’s views are addressed throughout the campaign lifecycle and work closely with Safeguarding Manager to ensure that all campaigns are designed from safer programming lens.
  • Conduct scoping exercises and research to inform evidence-led, participatory campaign designs that engage program and advocacy teams.
  • Apply research insights to strengthen campaign messaging, tactics, and outreach.
  • Design innovative campaign models combining grassroots mobilization, digital engagement, and creative storytelling.
  • Develop campaign monitoring frameworks with KPIs for reach, resonance, and impact.
  • Document campaign learnings, best practices, and case studies, and strategically diffuse/share it with Global Campaigns and Child Participation team.
  • Produce post-campaign reports and contribute to organizational knowledge management. Ensure all learning documents are well maintained in coordination with the Knowledge Management unit.
  • Collaborate with Child Rights Governance and advocacy focal points to align campaigns with movement-level priorities.
  • Design targeted interventions to engage the private sector, celebrities, and influencers to amplify campaign impact.
  • Support the PDQI Director in developing compelling business cases for fundraising on child-led campaigns and influence-building initiatives.
  • Represent Save the Children in Asia Regional Campaigns and Advocacy meetings and networks.
  • Create linkages between child clubs, networks, with larger Civil Society discussions, and with guidance from PDQI Director, leverage children’s participation in national and regional forums, and platforms.

Media Relations and Partnerships

  • With guidance from the PDQI Director, maintain an updated repository of journalists, and ensure that field-level communications focal points prepare and regularly update the regional journalist lists.
  • Design and implement quarterly journalist junkets and capacity-strengthening events to enhance understanding of the child rights situation in Nepal.
  • Coordinate media interviews and provide media prompts to thematic advisors and senior management to bolster visibility and thought leadership in national-level media outlets.
  • Draft press releases and media notes, ensure their strategic dissemination, and conduct post-event coverage monitoring through media tracking and analysis.

Program Development

  • Under the guidance of the PDQI Director, curate campaign and influence-related concept notes, and support thematic teams to integrate campaigns and influence-building components into new proposals.
  • In collaboration with the New Business Development Manager, identify opportunities and funding to scale or leverage existing campaigns and influence initiatives through both formal and unsolicited funding streams.

Representative Actions

  • Serve as the spokesperson for Save the Children, when delegated by the Country Director or PDQI Director.
  • Liaise with the Asia Business Partner for Communications and Campaigns to align with global movement priorities, ensuring the country office contributes to and benefits from regional and global visibility.

Other:

 

  • The Communications and Campaigns Manager will work closely with the Senior Partnerships Manager to develop approaches for engaging children and youth networks, and to design capacity-strengthening trainings and plans. Further ensuring full compliance with Save the Children’s partnership standards, with child rights principles serving as the cornerstone of all child- and youth-led campaign partnerships.
  • Collaborate with the PDQI Director to ensure that both new proposals and ongoing projects include dedicated budget lines for campaigns and child participation activities.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

 

ESSENTIAL:  

  • Master’s Degree journalism, Media, Communications, or a relevant field
  • At least 7 years of working experience in relevant field, including at least 4 years of experience leading high-performing communications and campaigns teams in I/NGOs or the private sector.
  • Strong written and spoken proficiency in English and Nepali.
  • Demonstrated experience in child-led campaign design, communications strategy, and influence-building actions.
  • In-depth understanding of donor branding and visibility requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of Nepal’s media landscape and strategic media engagement.
  • Knowledge in media collaboration, and private sector partnerships to strengthen communications and campaigns efforts.
  • Excellent skills on project management, including managing budgets
  • Excellent inter-personal communication skills
