Counselling Coordinator (2 positions available)

Location: 590 Seven Sisters Road, London, N15 6HR
Working Hours: 37 hours per week – Evening and weekend work may be required depending on service delivery.
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary: £32,220.00 – £43,590.00

About the Role

As a Counselling Co-ordinator, the post-holder will play a crucial role in ensuring that the counselling team feels valued, supported, and empowered. They will work closely with the Non-Opiate Counselling Co-ordinator, the Complex Case Counsellor, and the service’s talented volunteer and student placement counsellors to maintain excellence in clinical practice, uphold Waythrough policies, and promote best-practice standards.

In addition to these responsibilities, the Counselling Co-ordinator will sit within the HRS Leadership Team, collaborating closely with the Alcohol Treatment Leaders, Clinical Leads, and the Service Manager. Through this partnership, they will contribute to the delivery of holistic and comprehensive alcohol treatment, ensuring high-quality treatment planning and effective service delivery across pathways.

While the role requires a qualified and experienced counsellor, it extends beyond direct therapeutic work. The post-holder will act as a counselling team leader within an alcohol service, providing clinical oversight, coordination, and leadership. Knowledge and experience in counselling is essential, and experience within the substance use field is highly desirable.

What You’ll Do

  • Counsellor Support: Provide line management to our team of counsellors, fostering a positive and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure counsellors adhere to Humankind policies, procedures, and the BACP’s ethical framework, maintaining high-quality trauma-informed counselling services.
  • Record Keeping: Support counsellors in maintaining confidential, accurate, and up-to-date records in compliance with GDPR regulations.
  • Recruitment: Assist with volunteer and student placement counsellor recruitment, including conducting interviews and inductions.
  • Best Practice: Collaborate with the team to drive forward the development of best practices within our organization.
  • Day to Day Operations Support the wider management team with the day to day operations for HAGA and HRS
  • Caseload opportunity to mange small caseload of counselling clients.
  • Service-Wide Contribution Contributes to wider service performance by supporting monitoring of numbers in treatment, planned exits, and compliance, ensuring counselling insight informs operational decision-making.
  • Therapeutic Leadership: Promotes a trauma-informed and psychologically-informed approach across the service, ensuring therapeutic considerations shape treatment planning and client support.

To Succeed in This Role, You’ll Need:

  • A recognised diploma of or degree or equivalent in counselling/psychotherapy/counselling psychology/systemic psychotherapy
  • Membership of and accredited/registered with BACP/UKCP/BPC/BPS or equivalent, and extensive post qualification clinical experience.
  • Experience of working with service users in the substance misuse field
  • The ability to deputise for the Service Manager – managing the team, including volunteers to achieve targets and meet service standards.
  • Challenge a team of workers to improve practice and service delivery
  • Understanding of safeguarding, boundaries and confidentiality
