CERN Position: Production Engineer (BPM) (SY-BI-ML-2025-282-GRAE)

Location: Geneva, ch

Job Description:

You will be responsible for following up on the production of the cryogenic Beam Position Monitors (BPM) and overseeing their installation on the beam screen, all the way through to their insertion into the magnets. You will also take charge of the detailed design work and production follow-up for the room-temperature Crab Cavities BPMs, as well as any additional BPMs required by the project.

Your responsibilities:

  • BPMs production follow-up of CERN in-house cryogenic production.
  • Be responsible of the logistics with moving personally the BPMs across CERN for the different assembly steps or have them moved by the CERN internal transport service.
  • Assure that the assembly steps laser welding, copper plating, vacuum cleaning, leak checks, pressure checks, integration of the BPM in bigger assemblies, documentation are carried out as specified in the technical specification.
  • Design the BPMs to their end using CAD tools using know-how of Ultra-High Vacuum, manufacturing techniques, surface coatings, welding techniques, beam impedance, quality assurance and documentation.
  • Communication to other project group and presentations to the project.
  • Problem solving including design tooling as required.
  • Guide decision making processes on scientific basis.

Your profile:

  • Proven experience in mechanical assemblies or design studies during the course of the studies or other experiences.

Skills:

  • Work with CAD tools.
  • Basic knowledge of minimum 3 of the following areas: Design of Ultra-High Vaccum (UHV) systems, CAD design, logistics, production processes, quality control, quality assurance.
  • Ability to work in teams.
  • Present the status and progress of the work to other project groups.
  • Have a passion for the quality of a product.
  • Spoken and written both English and French.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor”s or Master”s degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

Additional Information:

Job closing date: 15.01.2026 at 23:59 CET.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Working hours: 40 hours per week

Job flexibility: Fully Onsite

Target start date: 01-May-2026
