Purpose of the job:
Under the supervision of the Education Specialist, the Education Officer provides comprehensive technical, analytical, and coordination support to DPE, NAPE, NAEM, DSHE Training Wing, BNU, and BOU to modernize and transform the education system through skills integration, wellbeing for students and teachers, strengthened teacher development and innovation and digitalization in training delivery.
The Education Officer will support NAPE and NAEM in developing and rolling out an enhanced teacher professional development ecosystem aligned with the competency/skill-based curriculum. The assignment will contribute to the design and pilot of a modernized skill-based pre- and in-service teacher education programme in collaboration with NAPE and NAEM, ensuring coherence with national reforms and international best practices.
A key function of the position is to support system-wide integration of wellbeing including MPHSS and SEL for students and teachers, skills—both foundational, transferable and employability—into education and alternative learning pathways, ensuring that learners gain life and livelihood skills relevant to the evolving socio-economic context in Bangladesh. Additionally, the assignment includes oversight and management of UNICEF implementing partnerships with NAPE, NAEM, DSHE Training Wing, BNU, BOU, and other partners, including HACT assurance activities, compliance, financial monitoring, and progress reporting to ensure efficient programme delivery.
Overall, this assignment aims to strengthen institutional capabilities, improve quality and relevance of teacher training, integrate skills and wellbeing across multiple education pathways, and promote evidence-informed decision-making to modernize the education system for all learners in Bangladesh.

Minimum requirements:
Education:
- A university degree in education, social sciences, development studies, or other relevant technical fields.
Work Experience:
- A minimum of two years of professional experience in planning and managing secondary education system strengthening is required.
- Technical understanding on teacher’s professional development, pre-service and in-service training, skills integration and implementation, teacher’s and student wellbeing, MHPSS and SEL and Digital leaning are required.
- Experience and understanding on working with education system and authorities of government (e.g. NAEM, DSHE, NAPE) institutionalization and system strengthening is a requirement.
- Strong understanding of competency-based education and 21st-century skills frameworks is needed.
- Proven experience in partnership management, programme monitoring, and HACT processes.
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in English is required.
- Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset
Desirables:
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate implementation research or monitoring activities is desirable.
- Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
- Experience in working with sub-sector programmes (i.e.PEDP, SEDP) with a focus on teacher’s professional development is an added advantage.
- Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
