Location: 128 Botcherby Avenue, Carlisle, Cumbria
Working Hours: 37
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary: £24,243 – £28,930

Make a real difference in your community

Are you passionate about helping others live safer, healthier and more independent lives?

Join Waythrough, one of the UK’s leading mental health and social support charities, and make a lasting impact every day.

We support over 125,000 people each year through our 200 services, empowering individuals to overcome challenges around mental health, housing, and substance use.

About the Role
Melbourne View is set within a peaceful location, with a large private garden offering a relaxing outdoor environment. Each person staying with us has their own self-contained flat, complete with fitted kitchen and bathroom, promoting independence and comfort.

We provide long-term residential support for adults living with enduring mental health challenges, empowering them to live meaningful, fulfilling lives within a safe and supportive community.

As a Recovery Worker, you will play an essential role in helping individuals achieve their personal goals and live independently. You will support the daily running of the service, promote wellbeing, and work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals.

This role involves shift working, which may include evenings, weekends, nights (waking or sleep-in), and on-call duties.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide person-centred support to adults (18–65) with enduring mental health needs in a peaceful, 12-bed residential setting.

  • Empower individuals to achieve personal goals, build independence, and improve wellbeing, including life-skills like budgeting, tenancy sustainment, and accessing services.

  • Carry out keyworking duties: manage your own caseload, co-create support plans, complete sessions and records, and promote positive risk-taking.

  • Maintain a safe, respectful environment, monitor wellbeing, and ensure compliance with legal and organisational standards.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and external agencies; maintain accurate digital records.

  • Manage your own workload effectively, work independently and as part of a team, and support service operations (including shift work across days, evenings, nights, and weekends).

  • Demonstrate strong communication, compassion, motivation skills, and the ability to prioritise and advocate for individuals.

To Succeed in This Role, You’ll Need:

  • Strong communication skills across all levels

  • Compassion and understanding when working with sensitive situations

  • Motivational and supportive approach to care

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Accurate record-keeping skills

  • Strong planning and prioritisation skills
