This is a hybrid position which requires 8 days per month in the office. You can be based in any WRI office (India, Netherlands, UK, or US preferred). Position summary:

In this role, you will lead the WRI Polsky Energy Center’s research and engagement on energy finance. You will report to the Director of Global Research and Data.

Responsibilities:

Research, analysis, and thought leadership (60% time)

  • Provide thought leadership on financial tools, models, and practices that promote delivery of clean, abundant, affordable, and reliable energy
  • Identify and advocate for strategic opportunities for the WRI Polsky Energy Center to produce energy finance research, data, and tools
  • Plan, lead, and produce high-quality research, data, and tools related to energy finance
  • Review and provide constructive feedback on energy finance-related research, data, tools, models, and practices produced or proposed by WRI and external partners

Engagement and communication (20% time)

  • Build and leverage WRI’s network of energy finance partners and stakeholders
  • Convene finance industry practitioners to incubate the development of products that fill gaps in the existing financial landscape
  • Communicate WRI energy finance research and thought leadership to internal and external audiences
  • Keep abreast of energy finance research and policy developments and communicate related insights to internal and external audiences

Project management and fundraising (20% time)

  • Contribute to grant proposals, monitoring, reporting, and learning related to energy finance
  • Project-manage development of energy finance knowledge products

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Education: You have completed a master’s degree in finance, economics, business administration, or another related field. Additional experience can be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience: You have 12+ years’ full-time relevant work experience in energy finance, e.g., in private sector or development finance institutions, private equity funds, impact investing, or similar. Your experience includes most or all of the following:
    • Leading high-profile, agenda-setting research on energy finance
    • Analyzing finance data, including creating and/or using financial models
    • Structuring or analyzing project finance transactions
    • Familiarity with utility financial structures and business models
    • Developing and communicating policy recommendations based on research and analysis
    • Working internationally and cross-culturally, particularly in emerging markets
  • Existing work authorization is required where this position is based. WRI is unable to support visa applications.

Potential Salary: US: 138-166K USD, UK: 85K – 106K GBP; NL: 94K – 87K EUR; India: INR 50L- 62L. If located in another country office, salary will be determined by local market conditions. Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
